Chapter 22
Eloise opened the video and saw Sophia, accompanied by Lily, attending a brand event. During the event, a tabloid reporter asked Lily about her thoughts on Jacob’s public apology statement.
Lily sneered before replying. “Men–who can settle downright from the start? They always want something fresh. With his status, countless women throw themselves at him. He simply picked one he found pleasing to the eve calling it ‘dating‘ is a stretch–it was just spending money for some fun.
“That woman is a doctor, so she’s smart enough to know to take what she can while it lasts, Girlfriend? Please, she’s just giving herself a title. If that’s really the case, let her retum everything she took from my son!”
Eloise didn’t need to check online to know that this video would spread far and wide, attracting countless harsh comments. Although she had moved on, they refused to let her go.
At that moment, a car stopped across the street.
- et. Jacob stepped out from the driver’s seat, followed by Sophia and Lily from the back
Eloise took a deep breath, walked out of her yard, and approached them
“Eloise, you live across from us?” Sophia asked in apparent surprise, clearly just realizing they were neighbors.
Eloise ignored her, glancing at Lily before turning to Jacob.
“Mrs. Kilboume claims I’ve taken a lot from you. Why don’t you tell us exactly what I took?”
Jacob frowned. “Don’t start this again.”
“Who’s starting something? We’ve already broken up–completely–but Mrs. Kilbourne keeps harassing me! Now that everyone’s here, let’s make things clear. Don’t make it seem like I’ve exploited you!” Eloise’s voice rose in anger.
“Hah! What night do you have to question Jacob? If not for him, could you have lived in that villa for eight years?” Lily pointed a finger at Eloise.
Yes, I lived in his villa. But I paid for all my daily expenses, which more than covered the rent, Eloise retorted.
“oh? And what about getting into Kingsbury Hospital through Jacob’s connections? That’s indisputable!”
“I got in on my own ment! At the time, Jacob was barely on speaking terms with the Kilbourne family. What help could he have given me?”
“Ha” And what about all the jewelry, clothes, and bags he must ve gifted you over the years? I don’t believe he never gave you anything expensive!” Eloise turned to Jacob with a faint, sardonic smile. “He did give me something.”
Lily let out a triumphant laugh. “See? I knew it.”
Eloise walked over to the trash bin, pulled out an empty soda can, removed the pull tab, and returned to Jacob. She tossed the pull–tab at him.
“Not long ago, Jacob proposed to me with a soda can pull tab. I threw it away at the time, but here–I’m giving it back now.”
Lily, who had been ready to unleash more insults, was momentarily speechless Jacob’s jaw tightened as his cold gaze bore into Eloise.
Eloise took two steps back, now addressing Lily directly, “So, stop accusing me of taking advantage of Jacob. If you want to keep talking, I have a voice too. We can always settle this with a trending debate on social media.”
“And the house you’re living in now don’t tell me it’s not Jacob’s Lily shot back
Eloise chuckled coldly. “The house I’m living in belongs to my fiancé. It has nothing to do with Jacob.”
“You’re lying! Are you saying you’re getting married?” Lily asked, incredulous.
“That’s right. Very soo
Lily scoffed. “You’re good at making things up. I’d like to see who would marry someone like you without shame”
“Then wait and see.”
Eloise turned to leave, but Sophia stopped lier.
“Eloise, so we’ll be neighbors now. How convenient on the way back, I was just telling Jacob that since you’re out of a job, you must be desperate to find work again. It just so happens that I need a housekeeper. You’re an ob gyn, and jacob said your cooling is excellent.
“You’d be perfect for the job of taking care of me.”
