Chapter 97
Kylie smiled faintly. “No need. The VIP ward has a rest area. I’ll nap there for a bit.”
Linda looked like she wanted to say something else, but the words got caught in her throat and never made it out.
coud of the villa.
Outside, in the courtyard, Logan saw Kylie walking o
He quickly opened the back door of the car for her, respectful as ever. “Ms. Clark, It’s hard to get a cab around here. I’ll take you to the hospital,”
“Thanks,” Kylie said without making a fuss and got in
The car hadn’t even left the villa compound before she drifted off to sleep.
Logan checked the rearview mirror and softly called, “Ms clark?”
Kylie didn’t answer. She was completely asleep.
Logan then made a quick U–tum and drove straight back to the villa
Samuel carried Kylie back to the guest room and gently laid her on the bed.
The evening light filtered through the sheer white curtains and cast a soft glow across the room.
Kylie quietly lay on the bed. Her long blackhair fanned out across the pillow like silk, framing her porcelain pale face. Her features were delicate, and her long and dark lashes fluttered faintly against her cheeks,
She looked serene and ethereal–like something that didn’t quite belong in this world.
Samuel stared at her for a second, slightly dared.
He then pulled the blanket over her and drew the curtains closed, letting the room slip into darkness.
After that, he sat by the edge of her bed for a while.
Then, suddenly, a soft mumur broke the silence behind him,
He turned on the small lamp by the nightstand, leaned down, and listened closely. “What is it?”
“No… No…” Kylie’s whispers trembled in her sleep. Her whole body was tense with fear. “Run Run!”
Samuel’s expression darkened. He reached out and gently patted her back, trying to soothe her. “Don’t be afraid, I’m here,”
Kylie’s face had gone pale, and her body colled tightly. Then, her voice suddenly rose–sharp and panicked. She was nearly screaming, “Fire! It’s on fire! Run! Run!”
Samuel didn’t know what she was dreaming about, but his chest tightened lile someone had jammed a needle straight into his heart.
The nightmare went on for quite a while. Kylie was deeply trapped in it and showed no signs of waking up at all.
she had eaten food laced with a mild sedative–so she slept heavily, and even calling her name wouldn’t wake her.
All Samuel could do was stay by her side. His hand naturally rested on her back, gently tapping in a calm and steady rhythm.
Gradually, Kylie’s trembling eased, and her muscles relaxed.
Eventually, she settled down again and resumed a steady breathing, her expression peaceful once more.
But had it really just been a dream?
Sanuel remembered Kylie saying that the scar on her back had come from a fire. It was when the sanctuary burned down when she was 18.
An hour later, Samuel stepped out of the guest room, and Linda walked over to meet him.
“What is it?” he asked, barely glancing her way.
She hesitated, “Mr. Vance, I’m not sure if I should talk about this……….”
“Go ahead.”
Back when Samuel had moved into Hythe villa, Vincent had assigned Jim and Linda to take care of him. They’d worked for the Vance family most of their lives, so Samuel practically grew up with them.
“If Ms. Clark finds out you tampered with her food, she might think you’re just trying to stop her from taking care of Mr. Lloyd. She won’t see it as a concrm–only
manipulation,” Linda said.
“Who said I was worried about her?” Samuel cut her off. “I just don’t want her looking after Owen. Keep an eye on her. When she wakes up, have Logan take her to the hospital.”
