Chapter 95
“You think I did it?” Samuel’s eyes narrowed dangerously
Rylle stared him down without flinching “Is there anyone in Seville that you can’t e
get information on?”
gotten sick, and you wouldn’t have had the chance to
“I’m a human, not a god,” Samuel said. “If I were all–seeing and all–knowing, my grandfather wouldn’t have got force me into a marriage.”
Kylie let out a cold, scomful laugh, and Samuel’s expression darkened even more,
“Your grandfather’s illness was an accident. Me torcing you into this marriage was opportunistic, sure. But none of that compares to a man getting beaten half to death and then dying in prison,” Kylie sharply said.
“I’m the one who beat him.” Samuel admitted without hesitation. He didn’t even attempt to deny it.
There was no point hiding it–Kylie would’ve found out anyway. He’d visited Dominic just hours ago too. It wasn’t exactly a secret.
Kyliestiffened. “It was you?”
she tumed to the prison guard standing next to Thomas. “This is what you meant by ‘rules‘? He can walk in and beat a critical inmate within an inch of his life just because he’s rich and powerful–but I, an ordinary citizen, don’t even have the right to see him?”
The guard broke into a cold sweat, and his Adam’s apple bobbed as he swallowed hard. He had no clue how to respond.
Kylie turned back to face Samuel and locked her burning gaze on him. “If I’d been allowed to see him, maybe he wouldn’t be dead. It they hadn’t stopped me, maybe I could’ve jumped on that ambulance and made him throw up the poison.
“Forget who wanted him dead–everyone here is responsible in some way.”
“You’re absolutely right, Ms. Clark” Thomas, who’d been quiet until now, finally stepped forward with a groveling smile. Clearly, he was trying to play it sate. Meanwhile, Samuel’s face was getting darker by the second.
Thomas wasn’t stupid–he could tell this woman wasn’t just an ordinary citizen. After all, no one dared to talk to Samuel like this. She might be the first to act this way toward him.
“We didn’t do our job well,” The
Thomas humbly said. “Mr. Vance did instruct us to keep the man alive. We never expected something like this to happen.” Kylie didn’t even bother hiding her disgust. “Wow, that quick to throw yourself under the bus for Samuel? What are you–his pet?”
Thomas’s face went from green to white. He felt humiliated beyond belief.
After a few seconds, he forced a smile and bowed again. “Ms, Clark, you’re absolutely right. We failed to carry out Mr. Vance’s orders properly. We’re not even worthy of bring his pets.”
Kylie stared at him, stunned.
Money and power really were everything. Even the damn prison warden was proveling at his feet,
“Enough,” Samur! finally said. Despite his frown, his voice was a bit calmer. “The investigation’s still ongoing. We’ll get to the bottom of it.
“You’ve said what you needed to say. You’ve let off some steam. Now go home. Once we have the autopsy results, we’ll talk again.”
“Let off steam?” Kylie’s voice, cracked with fury. “A man is dead, and you think a couple of insults are enough to cooline down?–
Samuel held her gaze for a long moment before quietly saying. “You’re really going to go to war with me over a dead man?”
Kylie’s lips curled into a bitter smile. “As if I could. You’re the great heir of the Vances–untouchable, ruthless, and almighty. And besides.. there’s already someone lying in a hospital bed because of all this,”
Samuel’s face went Hone cold, and the air around him dropped several degrees.
Without another word, Rylle turned and walked toward the Bentley parked a few feet away,
Meanwhile, Logan stood beside Samuel, too afraid to breathe.
In all the years he’d lauren Samuel, no one had ever dared talk to him like that. Not once.
