Chapter 88
Kylie forced herself to stay çalın..
Samuel looked at her, amused by how her words didn’t match her eyes,
the let out a low chuckde. “Il you were scared et me, you never should’ve messed with me in the first place. Life doesn’t hand out do–overs.”
Kylie replied, “Maybe not, but everyone’s got a wealmess–even you. And if you’ve got one, that means there’s always a way to get to you.”
“Then clearly, you’ve got no idea what it really means to cross me.” Samuel’s eyes narrowed, dark and sharp. His voice dropped to an even lower, yet dangerously
“Let me show you what it means to “Tall in love, you don’t latow If It’s love until you’ve slept with someone, right?” He dragged out the last few words, low and magnetic. It was the kind of voice that stirred something deep and unsteady in one’s chest.
“What do you mean?” Kylie stared at him in disbeliet, shocked by how close he was
“Backing off‘ isn’t in my vocabulary.” Samuel said again, his volce Tim. “Owen isn’t even on my radar. If I’d wanted him dead, I wouldn’t even have needed to make a big show of it–I could take him out clean, no mess, and no risk to my grandfather.
“I’m already digging into the crash. It won’t be long before we get answers.”
Kylie was forced to meet Samuel’s gaze
Her eyes searched for an answer in his eyes.
- s. She was trying to make sense of the dangerously handsome, yet unreadable man standing in front of her. Allan had once told her to stay away from people she couldn’t figure out. But what was she supposed to do with someone like Samuel?
People thought she had him wrapped around her finger–but that was never really the ease. In truth, he was always the one holding the reins. Samuel stared into Kylie’s eyes. They were as dark as obsidian and shimmered softly with unshed tears, and every slow blink of hers caught the light.
Despite the hariness in her gare, Samuel felt like he could see straight through to her soul.
She was impossible to look away from–so beautiful in fact, that she made his chest tighten. For a split second, Samuel lost focus.
He could clearly feel the way his body reacted around Kylie. She didn’t even have to say a word ordo a thing he still felt something for her, and that truth pissed himott.
With a sharp posh, he tumed Kylie’s face away. Then, he lazily leaned back in his seat with one arm draped across the backrest.
He narrowed his eyes as he watched the blur of city lights fly past the car window.
After that, Kylie said nothing, and the rest of the ride passed by in a tense but peaceful enough silence.
Soon, they teached the Vance residence.
It certainly lived up to its reputation. With just one call from Samuel, a rare batch of Purple Frost Root had already been delivered.
Upon their arrival, Kylie went straight in to examine Vincent. She then quickly wrote up a new prescription after checking his pulse and administering acupuncture. Meanwhile, Samuel stood to the side, fixed on her every move.
Kylie worked with calm precision. Her hands were steady and skilled far beyond what anyone would expect from someone of her age.
Kylle felt the heat of Samuel’s state and frowned ever so
to slightly.
He had watched hes during checkups, but it was never with this land of intensity. This time, he didn’t just doubt her medical skills he didn’t even trust her.
It was just like warn she hadn’t trusted him when Owen crashed–he was the first person slue suspected.
That lack of trust was the deadliest thing between them.
Kylie handed the prescription to a nearby housekeeper and instructed, “Take this and have the meds prepared exactly as written,
“Noted.” The housekeeper took the paper and left Vincent’s room–but instead of heading to prepare the medication, she slipped into a quiet storage room at the bark of the house.
