Chapter 29
At this point, Ins‘ face tumed ghastly pale. A thousand thoughts raced through her mind before she tumed to Llana. “Then does this mean I was scammed wh
ordered this gown?–
She gave herself a way out. Liana liked her, so she naturally went along with it.
“It’s fine. Even if it wasn’t personally sewn by Mr. Harrison, I still like it. Don’t dwell on it. It’s the thought behind it that matters most.”
Then, she turned to Kylie. “It’s not a big deal. Why did you have to take it so seriously and make a fuss over something so small?
“Don’t you think there’s something wrong with the way you handle things? At least Iris put in some effort while you showed up empty–handed. It’s obvious you
have no manners or upbringing
“Since Samuel is away on a business trip and you have nothing to do at Hythe Villa, you’ll stay here a few days to watch and leam.”
Before Kylie could respond, Liana ordered the maid, “Take Ms. Clark to the guest room.”
The words were right on the tip of Kylie’s tongue, but she swallowed them back and followed the maid to the guest room.
The next moming, she got up and went to the living room. She saw malds busy cleaning around, but there was no sign of Liana.
“You must be the new maid, right? Do you have no sense of time at all? Do you expect us to do all the work while you wait around to get paid? A middle–aged maid suddenly shoved a bucket and a scrub brush into her arms. “Go clean the swimming pool!”
Not far away, another maid hesitated in her work. She wanted to step forward and inform that Kylie wasn’t a maid.
But just as she was about to, the housekeeper called her back.
“What do you think you’re doing?” The housekeeper frowned at her and chastised, “Mind your own business and get back to work!”
“…” Kylie scowled and looked down at the cleaning supplies in her hands.
She hadn’t eaten properly since yesterday moming, and her face looked pale, but it was not enough for her to be mistaken for a maid.
Unless…
nk you get to pick and choose
“What are you staring at? The middle–aged maid snapped, interrupting her thoughts. “This is Mrs. Vance’s command. Do you think you get your tasks?
“Hurry and go! The pool needs to be ready by the afternoon. Are you going to deal with the consequences of delaying it?”
Since this was Liana’s order, Kylie had no choice but to take the tools and head to the rooftop pool.
The water was still full. She tightened her grip on the bucket as she peered at the flowing blue water. The air around her seemed to thin, malding it harder to breathe.
When she was a child, she fell into a pond while playing and almost drowned. Since then, she had been scared of deep water. She forced herself to remain cool and took a big breath, telling herself that she only needed to drain the water..
After placing down the bucket and brush, she was about to unclog the pool when a sudden, forceful shove came from behind. Her feet slipped, and she lost her balance, her body lurching forward. With a loud splash, she plunged straight into the pool.
Panic gripped Kylie like an iron vice. Her voice weakened, and her consciousness faded. Almost instinctively, she called out the one name she could think of. “Samuel, save me!”
