friend tonight. Let’s make it up another time.”

out the door
With that, Jackson stepped o
Upon noticing Enrica’s slight discomfort, Lawrence chuckled “Ms. Schubert, the few of us are pretty close. Zayne is our leader, so whether or not you were involved, anything concerning him is a top priority for us. You don’t have to feel had about it.”
But Enrica shook her head. “That’s different. I know you guys would go to great lengths for each other, but if it weren’t for me, Jackson wouldn’t have had to come all this way, I owe him for this, and 1 won’t just brush it off.”
Lawrence raised an eyebrow, slightly surprised.
With their status, most of the people around them were diven by ulterior motives. Favors like this were usually dismissed as trivial or, worse, expected.
But Enrica? She took something this minor and treated it as a real debt to reinember:
Suddenly, Lawrence had a clearer understanding of why Zayne, who had never been interested in women, was willing to entertain this so–called relationship game
with her.
With a personality this pure and straightforward, anyone in their circle would find it hard not to feel something for her
Meanwhile, outside the restaurant, Jackson’s usual carefree demeanor had completely disappeared.
His expression was serious as he looked at Zayne. “Zayne, are you sure Ms. Schubert had a head injury in the past?”
Zayne gave a slight nod, his face unreadable. He lifted his gaze to Jackson. “Her sudden headache, does it have something to do with that old injury?
Jackson hesitated before answering honestly. “I can’t say for certain without a scan, but my instincts as a doctor tell me.. yes, it’s probably connected.”
Zayne’s brows furrowed tightly. “How serious is it?”
Jackson smiled lightly. “Not serious. In fact, if she’s the type who doesn’t overthink things, she could go on living as if nothing’s wrong.
“Her injury happened a long time ago. It there was internal bleeding, she would’ve had major complications by now. It’s most likely just some lingering
aftereffects.”
Zayne’s expression relaxed slightly. He nodded. “I’ll take her for a full check–up sometime soon.”
Sounds like a plan,” Jackson smirked knowingly..
Lawrence said you were falling in love, and I didn’t believe it. But damn… It’s true. What I don’t get is that Ms. Schubert is gorgeous, sure, but you’re not exactly easy to win over How did she pull it off?”
Zayne let out a quiet scoff, pulled out a cigarette, handed one to Jackson, and lit one for himself.
He took a slow drag before saying, almost casually, “She didn’t win me over. I walked into the trap myself. And besides… she doesn’t even like me yet.” Jackson nearly choked on his saliva. He coughed violently, his eyes widening in disbelief. “No way. That’s impossible.”
Zayne glanced at him. “Why not? I’m not some untouchable god who gets whatever I want.”
Jackson was speechless.
Of course, he knew Zayne wasn’t a god, but this? It was unreal.
A woman who didn’t like Zayne? Was she jolding?
If Zayne could read his mind, he’d probably say something like, “Yeah. Not only does she not like me, but I had to pretend to be gay just to get closer to her without scaring herott.”
By the time Zayne returned to the table, all the food had been served.
Halfway through the meal, Enrica finally spoke up. “Zucker Group settled for goo thousand dollars. I was thinking… we should split it evenly. Would you two be okay with that?”
Lawrence, mid–bite, nearly choked on his food, Coughing, he stared at her in shock “Split evenly?”
Enrica nodded seriously. “You both helped me so much with this case. Without you, I wouldn’t have gotten this much compensation. It’s only right that I share it.” Lawrence stiffened, glancing toward Zayne. “Uh.. Zayne?“.
Was he supposed to take this money?
