Chapter 73
Across the street, a hot pink Panamera sat parked quietly.
Lorelei nudged Hohana’s alm, “See? Now do you believe me? That gu
gov is a friend of Enrica’s,
Rohana suntrked. “And just like that, you sold her out? I heard the Alford family is pretty fond of you.”
Lorelei scoffed, curling her lip indisdain. “Please. The Allond family? Do you think I don’t see through their little scheme? They’re just trying to climb the social
ladder.
I’m just playing along, keeping them on the hook. You know how it is, like keeping a fish Inatank for fun. Besides, my dad’s got his eyes set on the Castro family.”
Rohana didn’t hesitate to throw cold water on that idea. “The Castros are all about politics. My brother told me ages ago that people in politics don’t look twice at business families like ours. We either marry someone of our level or just a little higher Moving up an entire tier? Not happening.”
Lorelei sighed, her eyes filled with longing “If only we could get the Castros to notice us.”
Marrying into the Castro family would make them untouchable in Evermorth.
Shaking off the thought, she waved a hand dismissively. “Enough about that. What about you? Let me be real with you. Zack’s a decent guy, but he’s not a big deal. to me. 11 you need anything, just say the word.”
Rohana’s gaze drifted toward Enrica. After a long pause, a cold glint flashed in her eyes. “Since fate is on my side, I’ll make sure she never gets back up.”
The two exchanged a knowing look and shared a smug laugh.
Moments later, Rohana stepped on the gas, and the car glided away without a sound.
By the time Zayne arrived, Zack had just bought ointment and bandages. He was about to lift Enrica’s shirt to treat her wounds.
Zayne strode forward and calmly took the ointment from Zack’s hands. His voice was low and firm. “I’ll do it,”
At the same time, he made a subtle gesture toward the distance. Immediately, a few figures who had been silently inching closer froze in their tracks.
Zack was just about to curse at whoever lacked basic awareness, but when he tumed and saw Zayne, his heart nearly jumped out of his chest. Instinctively, he took a step back
Holy shit! Bug shot alert!
Rachel also took an unconscious step back, coming to the same conclusion
A boss–level character was incoming. How terrifying!
The two of them had done their research–there was no powerful Fulcher family in Evernorth, but Natasha clearly had serious backing
If she wasn’t local, that only meant the Fulcher family’s influence ran even deeper than they had imagined. Definitely not someone to mess with.
Ennca, however, didn’t notice her friends odd reactions.
Seeing Zayne reminded her of the panicked call she had made to him earlier. Feeling a little embarrassed, she muttered, “Sorry for making you come all this way. They already left.”
Zayne’s expression remained unreadable as he stepped closer. “As long as you’re okay, Let me see where you’re hurt.”
Enrica quickly shook her head. “No need, they were just about to
Before she could finish, Rachel suddenly started waving her hands frantically. “Oh, Enrical just remembered! I have something urgent to take care of. I gotta go!” Zack, realizing he was a beat too slow, smacked his forehead in frustration before blurting out, “Yeah! Rachel’s always so reckless. What it something happened with her dad? I’d better go dieckon ber!”
He dumped the bandages and alcohol on the table and bolted.
Enrica stared after them, completely dumbfounded. What the hell is wrong with them?
Zayne’s lips curved slightly in an almost imperceptible smile. He looked at Endica and asked, “Can you hold on a little longer? Let’s head home. I’ll take care of your
wounds there.”
Enrica had no choice but to nod. “Alright.”
Not far away, Rachel and Zack stopped running only once they reached a comer.
They peeked out cautiously, watching as Enrica got into a taxi with Zayne. Only then did they finally breathe a sigh of relief.
