Chapter 10
Brian Luther could soll remember the alsorry and priftness Caroline displayed when she harnly swallonend the morning after pills as if she could not wait to draw the line between both of them. The sudden offer from her left a perplexed look stamped on his face.

as trivial or mundane as those words might have sounded, they had kicked up a storm deep inside Brian Luther.
Teaching her a lesson for intruding into his private sanctum had been his initial plan, although the plan crumbled into nothing in the wake of her
recing him from the cuffs that held him, to say nothing of the fact that she endured him- the savage and bestial him at the time–and all that disavowed him of any more notions of retribution.
To think that after everything, she had even agreed to marry him.
He could barely claim to know what ulterior motives she might be harboring, but he had always been apprehensive about having another person privy to his deepest secrets.
He looked at the coyish antics of the girl who was, at least, nominally his wife, and that made the corners of his lips curl into a dashing gran
This is all well, maybe..” he mused.
He tacitly acquiesced and turned off the room lights before striding to the other corner of the bed and furled up that side of the blanket
What he expected to be a long sleepless night mired in awkwardness turned out to be a restful sleep for Caroline had dozed off the moment she occupied her corner of the bed.
The reason was simple enough: she had not been sleeping well for the past few days,
Brian turned over and saw that she wa

Feeling surprised, her hands traveled up and down the stiff and well–contoured surface to make sure.
“Gening touchy–feeling now, are we?
A deep voice rumbled from over her head and that jolted away what dizziness and sleepiness away from Caroline.
When she finally came to, there she was, lying spread–eagle all over him with her hands feeling around his lean and laut chest,
Terrified, she sprang up and glared at him as if he had done something to her.
But the defensiveness quickly evaporated when their eyes met, her stern glare melting away into a guilty look.
“T–L. I didn’t know it would become like that… I didn’t mean it!” she gasped feebly. Even she could not believe what just happened.
“I should be sleeping on my own side of the bed! How did I manage to roll over to this end! This is a seven–feet–wide bed for crying out loud!
God, how have I become such a slut!!
If only there’s a hole to hide inside’now!”
A rather amused Brian Luther put on a pensive facade and muttered, “Does that mean that you’re not in need of a hand anymore?”

He was wondering if she was trying to seduce him when he discovered that she was still sleeping as dead as a log.
But befert were cold. Maybe she was afraid of the cold.
For that reason, he did nothing to push her away. In fact, he felt unusually comfortable with her in his arms.
Even the insomma that he usually suffered from was gone that night.
When they met each other again, they were already at the dining hall downstairs, wallowing under the cryptic stares of his father and Susan. Heaven knew what they must be plotting again.
As much as Caroline found it rather bothersome, there was nothing she could do after all.
They hastily wolled down their breakfast and separated on their own business
Caroline was thinking of heading to Hessia Pharmaceuticals first thing as soon as she got inside the car, but she was halfway there when she received a call from Neal, telling her that there has been a developpent in the investigations.
That he would be so efficient was definitely not what Caroline expected and it came as a pleasant surprise.
She detoured to the police station and there was Neal waiting for her. He looked rather anxious. “Miss Green, your theory is verified. A post- mortem has concluded that Paul Grant was dead because of a complication during surgery.”
Just when she was thinking that this case would be a long and arduous wait for Ressua Pharmaceutical’s name to be cleared, it was solved in barely a
day.
To say nothing of Neal’s impeccable efficiency which had greatly impressed Caroline.
Nevertheless, the result of the investigation was well within her anticipation. “What about the chief doctor, Neal,” she asked. “Did you manage to locate him?”
Neal’s forehead creased into a frown at the mention of the doctor, “I can only expect the worst. There has been no record of him leaving the country.”
The complication was tantamount to attempted murder and as the chief medical personnel in charge of this matter, the chief doctor must be responsible. That he has now gone on the run was a clear indication of his guilt
Then again, with this matter now dominating the headlines, the chief doctor was also in grave danger himself
What drove him to commit these criminal acts? What benefits would he enjoy out of this? And who was behind pulling all the strings
These were the questions that needed answers,
“Sir,” Caroline asked. “Can you arrange a meeting with the family of the deceased”
Neal beckoned. As they walked, he explained, “They are still under questioning, but none e of them are giving up anything useful yet
A middle–aged man struggled violently against the cuffs of the restraint chair he was locked in the moment he saw Caroline. He glowered furiously at her, hissing with venom. Tm withdrawing my charge against Ressua Pharmaceuticals, all right? Now let us out!”
|_*SILENCE!” a man came in and barked at him fiercely.
The man’s mother crossly defended her son, “What is this?! Police brutality!! keep your hands off my son I’m telling you, Paul Grant’s death is a just one!
Caroline peered at the family of dishonest and unscrupulous scoundrels and smirked, “You seem to have yet to notice that you’re committing a

Tise pan squinted his eyes to read the slip before his eyes shot wide with shock and horror. “H1–How!! How on earth dal you have this slip??”
“Nice try to fool us, but too bad this fell into my hands,” she muttered as she handed the proof to Neal
Neal had not managed to trace the money he had siphoned yet, but Caroline had discovered that he had transferred the funds to the family of his daughter’s boyfriend.
Sternly, the police other demanded, “What else do you have to say? Here is the proof to show that you have been paid to hide what the chief dos tor had alone and to slander Ressua Pharmaceuticals. How dare you knowingly break the law?”
With the proot of their wrongdoing now in the light, all three culprits did not know what to say.
Realizing that they were now going to face the brunt of the law, the old lady began to caterwand as loully as she could to gain as much sympathy as possible. “It’s all Paul Grant’s fault. He had been abusing us back when he was still here! His death was a release to us!”
My father was a cruel person, Miss Green, added the middle–aged woman quickly. “There is no need to torment us with him even with his death.”
“Especially since he’s dying anyway,” quipped the middle–aged man bitterly. “He’s got a terminal disease
Neal remained unconvinced. Terminal disease or not, he bellowed, “What you all did is unequivocally attempted murder. It’s a felony whether he’s dying or not in the first place and for that, you’ll pay!”
“I did not kill anyone!” the middle–aged man countered.
