Chapter 30
Matthew became Nelly’s protector, his presence like a solid shield, sheltering her from all exhaustion and burdens.
As night fell, they left the bustling streets behind and drove back to the tranquil Baycrest Villa Abel, the loyal and seasoned butler, hurried to greet them the moment they arrived
“Good evening, Mr. Yorke, Mrs. Yorke,” he said in a voice filled with respect.
With a gentle smile, Nelly said softly, “Abel, you can all rest for the night. The two of us can handle things from here.“”
Abel hesitated for a moment, his gaze slitting to Matthew. Beneath Matthew’s stem expression was an unyielding determination that left no room for
argument
“Didn’t I tell you before? Never disobey Nelly’s order,” Matthew said, his voice carrying an undeniable authority.
“Yes, thank you, Mr. Yorke, Mrs. Yorke,” Abel said respectfully. He then promptly arranged for the staff in the villa to rest, leaving Nelly and Matthew alone to enjoy the rare tranquility.
“Mister, let’s sort through these little things today. It’s not that much anyway,” Nelly said playfully.
“Alright,” Matthew replied indulgently, his voice warm and gentle.
Before long, the two changed into comfortable loungewear and began replacing the household items one by one. Truthfully, there wasn’t much to replace —just a few basic necessities. Thus, it only took them half an hour for them to finish the task
“Ellie, is there anything else that needs replacing?” Matthew asked softly.
“No, this is already perfect,” Nelly replied, her smile warm and radiant.
Marthew, ever the perceptive man, easily caught the hint at anticipation in her eyes,
“Hmm, we won’t change anything now. We can replace more things later when we have the time,” Nelly said in a playful tone.
Matthew gave a gentle nod, his eyes filled with unmistakable affection.
Time passed quickly, and before they knew it, night had fallen.
The entire evening, Matthew stayed by Nelly’s side, never straying from Baycrest Villa even for a moment.
“I’m starving,” whined Nelly cutely.
“Didn’t you just have some snacks?” Matthew asked with a soft chuckle
“Yeah, but I don’t know why I’m hungry again,” answered Nelly with a pout, looking every bit like a child,
Matthew put his hand to his forehead. There was a hint of helplessness in his eyes, but even more so, they were filled with doting affection.
“Alright, I’ll cook for you,” Matthew said indulgently.
“Really? You can cook?” Nelly asked, her voice tinged with surprise
“Of course. What do you feel like eating?” Matthew asked, a hint of anticipation in his tone.
“Well then, let’s try your cooking tonight. I’m sure anything you make will be delicious,” Nelly said sweetly.
Hearing this, Matthew lowered his gaze to meet Nelly’s, his eyes filled with undeniable affection.
“You sure can eat,” Matthew teased.
“That’s right! Mister, you’ll have to work hard to make a lot of money and take care of the house, while I’ll focus on staying beautiful, Nelly said with a radiant smile, as stunning as a blooming flower.
“As you wish, Mrs. Yorke,” Matthew replied playfully
Alaint flush spread across Nelly’s cheeks, and after giving her one last glance, Matthew turned and headed toward the kitchen.
Nelly sat on the couch watching TV, though her gaze would occasionally drift toward Matthew. He was dressed in loungewear, with a cartoon–print apron tied around his waist–a sight that was both heartwarming, and anashig
Matthew busied himself with the cooking; he moved about the kitchen with practiced ease, making him appear captivating.
Unable to resist, Nelly wandered into the kitchen to watch him chop the vegetables.
“Mister, I can’t believe you actually know how to cool. All I can do is make instant noodles,” Nelly said, her voice tinged with admiration.
“Don’t worry. As long as you’re with me, you’ll have warm, home–cooked meals every day,” Matthew said indulgently.
“Yay!” Nelly exclaimed, her smile as bright as sunshine,
“You should head back to the living room. It’s going to get a bit greasy in here soon, and I don’t want any oil splashing on you,” Matthew said gently. “It’s fine,” said Nelly with a shake of her head, her eyes filled with determination.
