Chapter 41
Adrian’s expression darkened as he said, “Joshua, is this your first day working with me?”
Joshua, who had just stepped out of the conference room, froze, too afraid to even breathe.
Joshua rarely involved himself in Adrian’s personal matters. Adclan certainly didn’t like others prying into things he was determined to handle on his own. Joshua responded in a low, measured tone. “Understood, Mr. Wrenford. I’ll take care of it right away.”
Adrian ended the call abruptly, his face clouded with tension.
“Grandpa, are you really feeling better?”
Adrian walked in to find Damien questioning Alaric seriously. As soon as Damien saw him, he softly greeted him before turning his attention back to Alaric “Olay,” Damien said, leading Lucy out while closing the door behind them.
Adrian pulled out a chair and sat beside Alaric’s hospital bed. “How are you feeling? Is it really getting better?
Alaric didn’t answer his question, instead giving a faint smile and saying, “Actually, I was just in a light sleep. I didn’t fall completely asleep. I overheard part of your conversation outside the room. Thanks for standing up for Celeste…”
“Why do you must her so much? This isn’t the first time she’s treated you with acupuncture, is it?” Adrian raised his piercing gaze, fixing it on Alaric. His voice was deep and questioning
Alaric had always been meticulous about his health. Now, at such a critical time, if there wasn’t enough trust, why would he allow Celeste to perform acupuncture on him without hesitation?
Alaric spoke slowly, his tone calm. “Celeste did acupuncture on me years ago. That time was more serious than this one, but she managed to treat me with just acupuncture.”
Adrian furrowed his brow. “I didn’t kn
know about this.”
“This isn’t just something you didn’t know. Even Damien didn’t know. It was an emergency, and Celeste happened to pass by and saved me. Otherwise, I would have been long gone.” Alaric’s smile widened. “I only told Damien about it later. He probably didn’t mention it to you.”
Back then, Adnan had been tied up with overseas projects and was overwhelmed with work. Alaric hadn’t wanted to distract him, especially since he was already Improving. As such, he hadn’t bothered bringing it up.
“That woman, she’s already saved my life more than once.” Alaric s
sighed. “Too bad Damien has bad taste in women. His wife is so capable, but he doesn’t know how to appreciate her. All he does is mess around with an actress!”
Feeling that Alaric would get upset talking about this, and fearing it might affect his health, Adrian quickly intermpted, “Alright, didn’t you say you wanted to talk to me about something?”
His expression DOWE grave, Alaric continued, “In truth, Adrian, I wanted to point out that you have more wisdom than Damien and are far more he ever make things difficult for Celeste, it’s your responsibility as his uncle to watch over them. I sense there’s much they’re not telling me…” Alan’s words faded, and a sott, husky chuckle suddenly escaped Adrian’s lips.
Alaric frowned. “What are you laughing at?”

“You can rest easy. Ms. Morin is a lot tougher than you think,” Adrian said with a serious expression. “If those two ever clash, Damien might not be her match.” Alanc grumbled, “You speak as if your low her so well.”
“Though I don’t know her deeply, I’ve encountered enough people to form an impression. She’s nqt someone to

to underestimate.”
Adrian noticed the subtle approval in Ataric’s gaze, and a strange leaviness filled his chest. The events of today had undeniably altered his perception of Celeste. In the eyes of the entire Wrenford family, she had always been seen as fragile and solely responsible for domestic duties.
