Chapter 90
“You?” Nina’s eyes darted around Greg. Her beautiful eyes blinked as if she was s
was seriously considering this question.
Greg regretted it immediately after asking it. He thought to himself. Greg, are you affected by Nina! Do you love rocks in your head? Why ask such a dumb question.”
I made it seem like he actually cared about Nina.
Sure enough, the next second, Nina’s face fell. She looked at Greg wils utter disdain and said, “Greg, of course, you’re nobody in my late! You late me, and I hate you too. If I had to say, you’re the person I hate the most in my entire life?”
Greg knew it would be this answer. So he fired back, “Well, that’s great! I can’t stand you either. In fact, you’re probably the type of person I hate most in my life”
After hearing that, Nina’s temper flared. She thought, Is Greg insane Did he follow me all the way out here just to say how much he hates hert What’s wrong with him?
Nina pulled up her checks in anger and started shoving Greg backward. “Gol Greg, gri far away from me! Did you come all this way just to tell me you hate me? You really have nothing better to do! Don’t bother me while I’m busy with something important. I hate you to the core!
Greg took a few steps back and looked around to make sure Jacqueline wasn’t nearby. He then asked his sister, “Nina, where did Jacqueline go?” “What does it have to do with you? Get loat Nina roared.
Greg reminded. “There’s something wrong with her. Be careful around her?
“Jackie isn’t—” Nina was about to say that there was nothing wrong with Jacqueline, but she couldn’t deny that Jacqueline seemed troubled recently. She felt like Jacqueline was hiding something, but since her friend wouldn’t say, she didn’t know how to ask
Now that Greg also noticed something was off about Jacqueline, Nina thought maybe she should hear him out
Even though Greg was annoying. Nina knew he was better at reading people than she was. So she reckoned maybe his observations could help her figure out Jacqueline’s secret.
Nina stopped pushing him and stared at him warily, asking. You said there was something wrong with Jacqueline. What exactly is it?”
Greg raised an eyebrow and thought. She’s actually listening to me! That’s a miracle!
Hence, Greg began explaining his doubts. “Don’t you think Jacqueline has a lot of secrets? You say she’s one of the most important people in your life, but she’s hiding things from you. Have you noticed?”
“Ugh Nina had vaguely sensed it. But she wasn’t good at picking up on subtle emotions, so she glanced at Greg and asked, “I know Jacqueline’s keeping things from me. Can you guess what she’s hiding?”
“How would I know! I don’t know your past. But if she’s hiding something from you, it must involve you, Greg asserted.
Nina rolled her eyes at her brother and said, “Teh. If it didn’t involve me, why would she bother hiding it? That’s obvious. Greg, can you say something useful!”
“Fine, here’s something useful. Have you noticed! Jacqueline seems strong, but she’s actually very weak. People like you rarely get sick, but her condition is completely different. Maybe she’s ill and doesn’t want to tell you”
“Jackie is sick?” Nina’s eyes widened slightly
hey sustained severe injuries or were poisoned. Their immune systems
But she didn’t think it was possible. War machines never got sick unless they were incredibly robust, capable of warding off virtually any pathogen.
Therefore, Nina couldn’t help but wonder if Jacqueline was injured or poisoned.
But that didn’t make sense either. If Jacqueline was injured, she was able to heal quickly. Besides, if Jacqueline bled, Nina would definitely sell the scent of blood.
And poisoning was equally unlikely. Their bodies had been inoculated with a wide range of antibodies, rendering them virtually immune to all
toxins.
Nima couldn’t figure out why la
out why Jacqueline was weak, and the only way to
to know for sure was to ask Jacqueline directly
With Greg now deemed useless, Nina began pushing him away again. “Alright, you’re not needed here anymore. You can leave now.”
Gorg had never seen anyone burn bridges this quickly after crossing them

His eyelid twatched as he asked. “And what about you? Are you staying here? You’re not coming back with me?”
Nina pursed her lips and said, “Why should I go back with you! I can find the way. Greg, you’re so annoying. Just leave!“.
Greg said. “Where I go is none of your business. Ejust feel like staying here and enjoying the view. Can’t I?”
Nina questioned, “What view? There’s nothing here but rocks and the sea. The beachside view is way better
Greg retorted. “I just happen to like the mountain and the sea here. Got a problem with that?”
Nina freaked out and said. “You! Grouchy Greg!”
Greg said. “Nina, you really have no sense of respect, huh! Can’t you call me properly?”
Nina raised her voice and said, ‘Grouchy Greg! Grouchy Greg!”
As Nina and Greg continued their endless bickering, Clifford finally had the chance to administer the antidote to Jacqueline.
After injecting the blue liquid from the thick syringe into Jacqueline, Clifford noticed her face gradually regain its rosy color. He lowered his gaze and said. “This can only temporarily suppress the poison. You’ve missed the best window for treatment, and now it’s…”
Before Clifford could finish, Jacqueline interrupted him and said with a serious face, “Mr. Snce, I know I’m going to die. Honestly, I’m not afraid of death. I can even cooperate with you and put on a show for Nina and the other war machines.”
Seeing Jacqueline’s calm demeanor, Clifford felt a twinge of guilt. He said, “Sorry. I didn’t know about this. If I had, I wouldn’t have allowed those above to proceed with it.”
“What are you apologizing for?” Jacqueline rubbed her arms, pretending to be grossed out by his sentimentality.
Then, she said to Clifford, “Don’t do anything stupid. Right now, the higher–ups” stance on war machines is to preserve them if possible and eliminate them if not. You’re the only one standing on our side, even if your motives aren’t entirely pure.
you protect Nina and the other war
Still, it’s better than nothing. That’s why you must protect yourself and keep climbing the ranks. Only then can yo machines. So I’ll do whatever it takes to support you and help you gain the higher–ups trust”
