Chapter 89
Greg followed the footprints left by Nina and Jacqueline on the beach all the way to the back of the deserted island.
In fact, he wasn’t sure why he had followed them. After all, he didn’t care about Nina. If anything were to happen to her, he should be applauding.
But thanks to Jacqueline’s banter, the firm conviction he’d held onto was thoroughly shaken,
“What did she mean by Nina being innocent, and it wasn’t her fault? She und if I don’t cherish her. I’ll regret it Later. How ridiculous!
Jacqueline is just an outsider. What right does she have to criticize ne? Of course, I know Nina is innocent. But so what Mom died giving

Back then, the entire family had opposed Emily having Nina her having a laughter, even risking her life.

Greg believed Emily did not think about what would happen to the family if anything went wrong with her, and it was precisely because of her blind confidence that she ended up dying on the
operating table.
After Emily died, Darell was heartbroken and in despair. Rachel took advantage of that and pregnant with Jessica and used the child as leverage to pressure his father into manage.

Feeling guilty toward his mothers family and moved by the fact that Rachel had once been his mother’s cherished sister, his father gave in and married her. After that, their once complete family fell apart.
Growing up. Greg lost count of how many times people called him a motherless stray, said that a stepmother’s child is worthless or mocked that with a stepmother comes a stepfather, and he would eventually be kicked out of the Woods family
Greg had a rebellious streak in his youth, and would often get into trouble when provoked. Darell’s harsh discipline only deepened his resentment toward his mother and even the sister who had been abducted long ago
Greg blamed his mother for insisting on having a daughter. In the end, she died during surgery, which led to his tragic past
Greg also thought it was Nina’s fault. If it hadn’t been for her, his mother wouldn’t have insisted on giving birth and she wouldn’t have died during the delivery.
In Greg’s mind. Emily had only cared about Nina and never considered how he might feel
Therefore, he decided he wouldn’t show any care for the daughter his mother had longed for. He hated Nina. He wanted his mother to watch from heaven how much suffering her precious daughter would endure because of her own selfishness.
However, after the wilderness survival situation, Greg started to see Nina in a new light.
That girl had demonstrated extraordinary strength. It was an immense power far beyond the norm.
But that kind of strength couldn’t be gained through simple exercise. It required extremely rigorous training that ordinary people could hardly imagine. And this made Greg’s mind wander
He figured Nina must have gone through a lot of hardships to become that strong. Jacqueline’s comment about whether the suffering Nima had endured only confirmed in
.
Greg couldn’t help but thank, Jesse is just a stepdaughter, but she lives the life of a privileged young lady in the family. While Naia, though hateful, is still my sister, and she’s suffered as a child.
Thinking about that made Greg feel deeply uneasy and upset
That was just a minor issue. What really bothered him was that Nina seemed to have a serious mental flaw. She seemed to think in a straight line and did not know how to be flexible.
And he was sure that people like that could be easily sold without even realizing it
Greg definitely disliked Nit and believed he had every right to be mean to his sister. Outsiders were in no place to criticize him. So when Jacqueline appeared and Nina was separable from her, Greg felt a strange sense of crisis.
He had the feeling that Jacqueline wasn’t quite right. She was cakulating and hiding a lot of secrets, and yet Nina seemed to trust ber very much.
If one day Jacqueline decided to sell Nina out, Nina would probably walk right into her trap.
To make matters worse, Jacqueline’s mindset was downright dangerous. Beneath her friendly facade. Greg saw a bloodthirsty and cold–hearted nature. To her, other people were nothing more than insignificant specks of dust

Greg worried about Nina staying close to someone like that and Jacqueline might get rid of his sister when she had a bad day Judging by Jacqueline’s abilities, she was clearly stronger than Nina
So, when the two girls suddenly left the group, Greg couldn’t help but follow them.
He reasoned that if Jacqueline tried to harin Nina in a fit of rage, at least he could collect Nina’s body and give her a proper burial. Even though he didn’t particularly like her, they were siblings after all
Unfortunately, the two girls moved too fast. In the blink of an eye, Greg lost track of them. Thankfully, they hadn’t covered their tracks, so he managed to follow their footprints
As Greg approached the edge of the island near the rocky reefs, a small figure suddenly leaped out of nowhere, landing right in front of him.
Before Greg could react, Nina placed her hands on her hips, glared at him, and demanded, “Greg, what are you doing here! Are you stalking us now! I’ve really misjudged you!”.
Greg froze at the sight of Nina but let out a breath of relief that she was still alive. “Nina, where did you come from?” he asked.
“I jumped down!” Nina pointed at the rocky cliffs above, then started shoving him back. Don’t change the subject! Why are you here! Go back!
Now!
Greg let her push him a few steps without resisting. His gaze swept around as he asked. “Where’s Jacqueline? Isn’t she with you?”
These two girls had too many secrets. Nina already had plenty, but Jacqueline was an even bigger mystery. So, Greg was greatly intrigued.
But Nina didn’t bother answering. Instead, she said. “Stay out of Jacqueline’s business! I’m not telling you anything. Go back
Jacqueline didn’t seem to be in good shape, and Nina planned to check on her as soon as she got rid of Greg. She didn’t want to waste time talking
Greg frowned at how fiercely Nina defended Jacqueline. With a scoff, he asked, “Who even is she to you? Why are you so protective of her?”
Jacqueline is one of the most important people in my life! Of course. I’ll protect her. Nina declared without hesitation
The two war machines shared a deep bond and they would sacrifice for each other.
Greg’s eyes flickered as he thought, One of the most important people in her life? That carries serious weight:
Then, for some inexplicable reason, Greg blirted out a question he immediately regretted. “What about me? Where do I stand in your life?”
