Chapter 292
I’ve got no idea too, Sam said, looking very troubled. She was a carefree and easygoing person in the first place, but now she was frowning because of Sanya’s situation. Clearly, Sanya’s problem was not a minor one.
Sam then turned her gaze to Nina and said, “Nina, since I’m about to go to the border, I’ve got to count on you to handle Sanya’s situation.”
“Huh?” Nina said. “Counting on me?”
Nina, who was still listening about Sanya’s situation from the sidelines, tilted her head and blinked.
“Yes, I can only count on you,” Sam said. “Among the war machines, aren’t you the closest to Sanya? She likes to hang out with you too. If possible, go see her and sound her out.”
“Alright,” Nina said.
Not overthinking things, she agreed immediately. With a cheerful smile, she said, “Actually, I haven’t seen Sanya for a long time, and I miss her a lot. If she really wants to cause trouble, I’ll figure out a way to stop her.”
“You’re the most reliable one.”
Nina agreed readily, so Sam’s huge worry was eased. Then, she smiled again, ruffled Nina’s head, and laughed, saying. “I hope that when I return from the mission with Eric and Susan, we can all get together like we used to.”
Nina smiled confidently at Sam and said, “Mm–hmm! Of course, it’s possible. Sam, you’re still not aware, right? Clifford said that we, the war machines, can interact with each other as long as we have a guardian with us.”
“Alright!” Sam smiled radiantly. “Wait for me, Eric, and Susan to come back then.”
Nina smiled cheerfully and said, “Okay.”
Initially, Sam intended to stay at the Woods family’s home for a night before leaving. However, her supervisor urged her to quickly set off for the border and not delay the mission. Sam had no choice. After chatting with her friends, she was ready to set off.
“What?” Nina said. “You’re leaving tonight?”
She couldn’t bear to part with Sam.
With reluctance to part with Sam, she then hugged her arm and bared her teeth at the supervisor. “What’s wrong with your supervisor?” she said. “What’s with him rushing you so hard? I’ll get Clifford to talk to him.”
Sam smiled and stopped her. “Forget it, Nina. My supervisor is just doing his job. Anyway, after the mission is over, we can get together again, right?”
“Although that’s true…”
Nina pursed her lips helplessly and glanced at Sam again. With a mix of dissatisfaction and mild reproach, she said, “But we finally got to meet. We’ve just chatted for a while, and you’re leaving. I still have many interesting things that I haven’t had time to tell you.”
Sam smiled even more radiantly after hearing this. She hooked her arms around Nina’s neck and affectionately nuzzled Nina’s cheek, saying, “You’re so cute. Actually, I have a lot of things that I haven’t had time to share with you all too, but I have a mission this time.
“So, let’s save the stories for next time. When the time comes, I will definitely listen carefully to everything that has happened at home while I was away.”

“Alright. You’ve got to make sure you do that, okay?”
Nina also hugged Sam and nuzzled her face affectionately.
Although Sam was a chatterbox, Nina still liked her a lot.
“Of course!” Sam said.

After a few moments of affectionate bonding, Sam turned her gaze back on Charlie again. She glanced at him and said to Nina, “Nina, you and Gabriel can see me off till here. I have something to say to Charlie in private.”
Nina pouted and said, “What’s with you all having a talk in private with Charlie again? Does Charlie have some secret he’s hiding? Why is it that all of you like to talk to him in private?”
At this moment, Charlie walked forward, pressed down on Nina’s head, and said, “That’s because I’m the most reliable. When you’re like me one day, they’ll come to talk to you in private too.”
“What do you mean?” Nina said angrily. “When was I being unreliable?”
Without any consideration for her feelings, Charlie said, “You’re unreliable all the time.”
“Charlie!”
“Be good and stay here. Don’t come over to eavesdrop.”
“Hmph! You think I want to eavesdrop, huh? I couldn’t care less.
“That’s great, then.”
With that said, Charlie and Sam walked further away.
Nina, who was left behind, turned around and looked at Gabriel. Refusing to swallow the bitter pill, she pointed at herself and asked seriously, “Gabriel, do I look very unreliable?”
Gabriel was at a loss for words.
He glanced at Nina, his blank expression overshadowed by a strong sense of sadness that could not be dispelled.
Nina was surprised, and she said, “Yikes! Gabriel, what’s with that look on your face?”
Gabriel pursed his lips, let out a long sigh, and said gloomily, “It’s fine if you’re unreliable, but how come Sam excluded me as well? Am I as unreliable as you in Sam’s eyes? That hurts my self–esteem.”
Speaking of his sorrow, Gabriel let out another heavy sigh.
After listening to Gabriel’s complaints, Nina was dumbfounded. She thought, ‘Good lord! This Gabriel really has a knack for throwing shade! He’s been openly and secretly dissing me. I didn’t expect the thick–browed Gabriel to be so unkind. I misjudged him.‘
On the other side, seeing they had walked far enough, Charlie stopped and asked Sam, who was in front, “Sam, what do you want to talk to me about?”
Sam turned around, her gaze landing on Charlie. Several complicated expressions flashed across her face before settling into an apologetic look as she said to him, “Um, Charlie, I’m sorry about the matter concerning Jackie.”
Charlie was stunned, and his eyes flickered for a moment. “Why did you suddenly mention Jackie?”

Sam said in a low voice heard later that Jackie killed her family and was punished. I’m very sorry that I couldn’t come to see you all right away.”
Sam always saw herself as the eldest sibling among all the war machines, feeling that she had the duty and responsibility to take care of this group of friends.
But when they were going through their toughest time, she missed the opportunity to learn about Jackie’s incident right away because of her family’s matters. This made her feel very vexed and regretful.
This time, she came to see Nina not only to check in on her friends before the mission, but also for Charlie and Sanya. Sanya made her very worried, and she was deeply apologetić about Charlie and Jackie’s matter.
Charlie was wondering why Sam wanted to speak to him in private. ‘Is that it?‘ he thought.
He put his hands in his pockets, looking completely indifferent. Then, he curled his lips and said, “Sam, is your sense of responsibility somewhat overly strong? What does that have to do with you?
“Given the situation back then, even if you had come, you wouldn’t have been able to change anything. What’s more, Jackie didn’t want everyone to worry about her, so she kept this matter from us. You don’t have to apologize to us then. It’s not necessary.”
Sam forced a laugh and said, “I knew you would say that. But even so, as the eldest sibling, I will still be worried about you all. Isn’t that justified?”
Then, she continued seriously, “Although you all don’t have to go to the border for now, the situation in the country isn’t looking good either. Sanya’s situation is a hidden danger, and I don’t know what she wants to do.
“Although I asked Nina to go over and check on Sanya, Nina is too naive. Gabriel is not the sharpest tool in the shed and is easily fooled. The only person who can control the situation is you. So, Charlie, protect them well and don’t let anything happen to them.”
“Got it.”
Charlie agreed. Then, he looked at Sam and softly added, “Don’t just focus on our issues. Actually, the situation at the border isn’t as easy as you think, right? You, Eric, and Susan need to be careful too.
“Don’t get hurt. If you guys really can’t handle it, ask for reinforcements. We’ll go over and help.”
Sam chuckled. “Got it. I know what to do.”
She patted her chest to assure Charlie. Then, she formally said goodbye to him again. “I’ve said everything that needs to be said, I’m leaving now. Charlie, keep in mind that you must protect Nina and the others.”
“Yes, I know. Sam, you’re really long–winded.”
Sam burst out laughing. “I’ve always been long–winded, and you only just realized, huh? Alright, I’ll stop nagging. I’m leaving now. See you, Charlie!”
With that said, Sam turned around and left.
Watching Sam’s figure slowly getting farther away, Charlie suddenly felt a strong sense of uneasiness for some reason. He could not help but call out to Sam again.
“Sam!” he said.
Upon hearing that, Sam turned around and said, “Yes?”
Charlie stood still and looked at her intently as he said solemnly. You must come back alive with Eric and Susan.”
