Chapter 267
“Yes” Without hesitation, Clifford, who always appeared calm and as if nothing bothered him, gave a clear and definite answer.
Oliver was secretly surprised by the answer. Nina had confessed her feelings to Clifford, but he always brushed it off, learling Oliver to believe he didn’t have feelings for her.
When asked if he loved her, he had expreted Clifford to avoid the question, giving a vague or evasive response. Instead, Clifford’s answer was
“Since you love Nina, why haven’t you agreed to be her boyfriend! She confessed to you in front of so many people just now, and you didn’t respond. What do you think she must be thinking?” Oliver continued to press.
Clifford didn’t answer immediately. Instead, he crushed the cigarette, smiled, and asked Oliver a question. “So, what do you think Nina would have thought if I had brushed off this topic? Would she have been heartbroken? Would she luve been upset? Or would she have felt hurt and wronged because of it?”
Oliver replied immediately, “Obviously! If you don’t give a clear answer, she’ll be- But midway through his words, he suddenly stopped.
He began to consider Clifford’s question seriously. He thought, Had Nina been heartbroken and upset?‘
After carefully recalling the scene from earlier, Oliver realized that although Nina hadn’t received an answer and was briefly upset, she had quickly moved past at. She seemed to have set aside the confession and happily ate again. Nina continued to accept Clifford’s kind gestures, just as usual.
Oliver thought. If she truly felt hurt or upset, she wouldn’t have so easily accepted Clifford’s kindness again, would she! But it seemed like Nina hadn’t thought about it at all!
After the meal. Nina went straight to play with the other kids. The failed confession hadn’t affected her at all. But how could that be? he thought. After coming to this conclusion, Oliver was quietly shocked.
Oliver had thought that in this relationship. Nina would be the one to fall first and get hurt. But now, it seemed she didn’t love Clifford as much as he had imagined.
Sering that Oliver seemed to have come to a realization, Clifford lowered his gaze and smiled lightly, saying. “Now you understand, right? Her confession wasn’t because she was deeply in love with me. We’ve spent much time together, and she’s gotten close to me. That’s why she said such things playfully
Well.” Hearing Clifford’s firm statement, Oliver was momentarily stuttered.
However, he felt something was off and said, “Even if Nina doesn’t like you that much right now, don’t you love her? If you do, you could agree to be her boyfriend and start developing your relationship, right? Why refuse to be her boyfriend!”
Hearing Oliver’s question, Clifford’s gaze flickered, and his thoughts drifted far away as memories from nearly 20 years ago resurfaced. It seemed like quite a while passed before he lowered his eyes, a faint smile tugging at the comer of his lips.
“Oliver, the situation between me and Nina is complicated. And I don’t think explaining it all to you is necessary. I understand why you’re asking me, worried I might be toying with her feelings. Let me assure you, there’s nothing in this world more important to me than Nina.
“She’s still too young and doesn’t understand the world enough. I haven’t responded to her yet because I want her to have more experience and a dreper understanding. If she still chooses me after that, I will not hesitate to accept her and become her partner, But not now, Clifford explained.
“Clifford Looking into his solemn demeanor, Oliver could see no hint of falsehood. At that moment, he believed Clifford
Oliver realized than Clifford wasn’t the kind of man who played with people’s feelings. As for why he hadn’t agreed to be Nina’s boyfriend, it seemed something deeper at play–something significant enough to make Nina reconsider wanting him as her partner.
Oliver know when to stop, and he wasn’t the type to press for details when someone didn’t want to share. His purpose in speaking with Clifford was to understand whether he genuinely cared for Nina, and now that he had the answer, it was enough for him.
Oliver extended his hand and lightly p

Clifford rubbed the spot on his chest and chuckled. “Don’t worry, you won’t get the chance,” he said.
Upon hearing this, Oliver didn’t get angry. Instead, he smiled, feeling a sense of relief. Though it was painful that the budding feelings had been cut short, Oliver still deeply admited Clifford and didn’t dislike Nina. Ultimately, he decided it was better to let go and wish the two of them well.
After their conversation was finished, they headed back downstairs. As soon as they descended, they were met with the sight of the three linde troublemaker, causing a stir.

Chapter 267
“Oh my gosh Is there no justice?”
“How infuriating! I can’t believe 1 lost again!”
“I don’t believe it! Tell me this isn’t true!!”
Clifford and Oliver exchanged glances before walking over and asking. “What’s going on?”
At that moment, Nina excitedly ran over to them, grinning as she said, “Clifford, Oliver, where did you guys go! You missed quite a show! These three siblings challenged Abbie, saying if she lost, she had to call Clifford by his name–and after the match, she won again! Well, Abbie is amazing!”
“What?” Oliver looked at Abbie in surprise. “Is Abbie that impressive? How did she manage to beat the three troublemakers?”
Nina replied, “It was the san
same three things we competed in! They lost in all of them!”
“How could that be?” Oliver asked.
Abbie stood there shyly, smiling humbly, saying, “Well, it was just luck”
Clifford and Oliver were speechless. Clifford looked at Abbie thoughtfully, a meaningful gleam flashing in his eyes. The fact that Abbie could defeat the three troublemakers suggested that she could become quite a promising individual with a bit of guidance.
As Clifford was deep in thought, his phone suddenly vibrated. Clifford took it out and glanced at the screen, seeing that it was a call from Tyrone, Thinking it was probably work–related, Clifford walked to the side and answered the call. “Tyrone, what’s the matter?”
On the other end, Tyrone’s voice sounded anxious and urgent as he said, “Mr. Snce, it’s bad news! I just got word that there’s an intention to release that madman, Jake Shelton, from custody!”
