Chapter 212
With only three days left until Clifford could take them to visit Eric, Nina eagerly shared the good news with Mandy, suggesting her to bring Samon along as well.
Simon, true to form, inediately started preaching his peace–loving philosophy when he heard about a potential fight. Of course, that led to being soundly beaten by Mandy before he begrudgingly agreed.
Before visiting, Nina alecided that it would be improper to arrive empty–handed as giving gifs was an important part of social etiquette. Simon had already established a tradition by offering various local treats on his visit, and even though many didn’t survive the journey, it was the thought that
So, the three of them made plans to go shopping for gifts for Eric and his little sister,
However, just as they were about to leave, Nina received an unexpectedl call.
“Hello? Who is this?” she asked, seeing no saved name attached to the number.
A warm and cheerful female voice responded, “Hey, Nina. It’s me.
Hearing the voice, Nina’s face lit up withs excitement. “Sansan!”
At her outburst. Charlie and Gabriel immediately crowded around her.
Gabriel looked genuinely surprised. “Susan reached out to Nina? Wow, are we really going to get all nine of us together soon?”
Hearing this, Charlie’s expression shifted subtly.
Wow. All nine of us reunited. If only Jackie hadn’t been placed with that kind of family, we might all still be together now.
Noticing the change in Charlie’s expression, Gabriel realized he’d misspoken
Without saying much. Gabriel gave Charlie a comforting pat on the shoulder-
Gabriel said, “Don’t worry, Charlie. Jackie will be okay. You’ll see.”
Charlie replied. “I know. I’m fine.“
Meanwhile, Nina was thrilled about the call. Her eyes sparkled as she asked. “Susan, how’s life with your family? Are you doing
ir well-
Susan replied, “Yes, everything’s great. The skies here are always blue, the clouds are so white, and the grasslands stretch on forever. My family raises a lot of cattle, horses, and sheep, so I spend my days racing horses with my siblings”
“Wow! Horse racing?”
Nina’s jaw dropped in envy. Being cooped up in a concrete jungle while Susan galloped across the open plains every day felt incredibly unfair.
Before the
e could wallow too much, Charlie leaned in with a smile. “Susan, are you getting along well with your family?”
Susan was surprised to hear Charlie’s voice.
“Hey, Charlie! You’re there too? Yes, they’re very kind to me, though sometimes their enthusiasm can be a bit overwhelming. But overall, it’s much freer here than it ever was at the Division. I really like it
“Is that so?” Charlie’s smile softened. “That’s great to hear, Susan, I’m happy for you.
In the assembly of distinctively quirky war machines, Susan stood out as the most normal and inconspicuous. The group had its fair share of stoic reserved individuals–such as the naturally suave Eric and the intimidating Mandy, who exuded a perilous charm that demanded attention. Then there were the unpredictable ones like Gabriel, who, despite appearing oblivious, often made astonishing and bizarre remarks. Each member possessed a unique characteristic that was memorable,
Susan, however, was different. She had almost no presence. In a lineup of violence machines, she was the one people would overlook. Her Lack of a standout personality or any particularly memorable quirks made her fade into the background. Even in terms of raw ability, she ranked as the weakest among the nine.
Even so, Charlie had always appreciated Susan.
Among a group of highly volatile personalities, her calm demeanor was a breath of fresh air. Working alongside her was refreshingly peaceful–a sentiment Jackie had shared as well.
Thank you, Charlie” Susan smiled.
Gabriel, never one to sit idle, chimed in. “Susan, why the sudden call to Nina?”

“Oh. I stumbled across one of Nina’s live streams online and realized she’s part of the Woods in Jadestone. I looked up her contac
thought I’d give her a call. The grassland beef and mutton are fantastic this season, and 1 remember Nina loves meat, so I wanted to send her some It has a lovely, subtle milky aroma.”
This immediately sent Nina into a frenzy. “Woohoo! Susan, you’re the best! Yes, please send me lots and lots of them!”
Susan smiled. “Of course. And since Charlie and Gabriel are with you. I’ll send extra for everyone to try.”
