Seven months later, Jolene gave birth to a pair of daughters.
After discussing with Cedric, their eldest, Clarissa Norwood, would become the Norwood family’s successor. Meanwhile, their youngest, Jamie Miller, would be the Miller family’s
successor.
During Jolene’s pregnancy, Cedric had completed six months‘ worth of work in advance while looking after Jolene.
Therefore, he had a lot of free time to help with watching over the kids after they were born. Coupled with the help from Gloria, Jolene was able to get all the rest she needed.
After about a month, the couple brought their twins to the Norwood residence.
Louis was over the moon. He split the expensive jewelry and accessories that once belonged to his late wife equally and gave them to his two grandchildren.
The other elders prepared various gifts for the twins. As for Charles and Paige, they transferred the ownership of an amusement park to the twins, saying that it was a gift for their nieces.
Jolene remembered that the amusement park was supposed to be owned by Preston initially. She subconsciously cast him a glance and noticed how haggard Preston had been since the last time she saw him several months ago.
Perhaps he had sensed Jolene’s gaze. Preston raised his head. He blinked a few times before turning his bloodshot eyes away.
Cedric followed Jolene’s gaze and spotted Preston as well. He furrowed his brows.
During the past year after he and Jolene had gotten married, Cedric had rarely asked about Preston’s affairs. Still, he would hear about it from time to time.
Even though Cedric did not approve of that wild, rebellious side of him, Preston was nevertheless his brother’s son. As the head of the Norwood family, Cedric could not just do nothing and watch Preston wallow in self–pity either.
After the family dinner was over, Cedric asked to see Preston in the study.
No one knew what the two of them had talked about inside the room. By the time Preston came out, his expression had brightened up visibly. Even his eyes looked a bit more lively.
Upon seeing Preston appear in good spirits again, Louis, Charles, and Paige felt much more at ease.
On the way home, Jolene could not suppress her curiosity any longer.
“Honey, what did you two talk about in the study?”
Cedric adjusted the blankets placed over the twins‘ bodies and took Jolene’s hand.
“I put him in charge of the project in Jeronto.”
“That’s it?”
“That’s it.”
Cedric explained patiently to Jolene, who was clearly puzzled.
“The reason why he keeps drinking every day is because he’s enjoyed a pampered life all along and he’s too fixated with his heartbreak at the moment.
“He won’t have the time to dwell on these things if we give him something to do and keep him busy. If anything bad happens to Preston because of his excessive drinking, it’ll only break Charles‘ and Paige’s hearts.”
They greeted different seasons as the years went by.
Gradually, the twins grew. Soon enough, they learned how to say words like “Mommy” and “Daddy“.
Ever since he got married, the workaholic Cedric began following the routine of starting work at 9:00 am and getting off work punctually at 5:00 pm.
The first thing he needed to do after getting off work was to follow Jolene’s instructions and purchase some sweets or toys. He would also get a bouquet of flowers on his way. Before Cedric entered the house, the two young children would run up to him after hearing his footsteps, calling for their father nonstop.
Even the stern, charismatic CEO was often overwhelmed by his daughters‘ many requests. Cedric might be playing with Clarissa on the swing at first He would be seen playing the toy train with Jamie the next instant. There was hardly a moment for him to rest.
Meanwhile, Jolene sat on the couch and ate some cut–up fruits unhurriedly. She grinned from ear to ear as she watched how busy Cedric was.
After being “tortured” that way for four or five years, even Cedric could not take it anymore. They started sending the twins to kindergarten once the children reached as air
age.
On their first day of school, Cedric waved the twins goodbye and watched them enter the building. Then, he let out a long sigh of relief, held Jolene’s hand, and started walking
away.
Seeing how glad and relieved Cedric was, Jolene clicked her tongue playfully and teased him.
“Someone said it was really nice having two daughters and how they wanted to stay with the kids at all times to watch them grow. That person even suggested establishing 4 kindergarten at home. Yet, they’re already giving up on the idea after watching over the kids for a few years?”
