Chapter 9
Violet’s POV
“Thank you for watching her,” I said as Sofia and I were about to leave the daycare.
“Of course. See you later, Sofia,” her sitter Ms. Dawson said. Before getting in the passenger, side seat, I put Sofia in her car seat, and Emily drove home.
“Are you alright?” Emily asked for the thousandth time.
“Yes, I am fine. I am just tired,” I said while cooking spaghetti for dinner. I didn’t have an appetite, but I knew Sofia needed to eat.
“I expect to see you eat before going to sleep. You barely eat,” Emly said
“I ate pizza, remember?” I asked
“You took a few bites of pizza. That doesn’t count.” Emily replied.
After cooking, I placed some food on a plate for Sofia to eat. Emily made her plate and looked at me. “Where is your plate,” Emily said. I rolled my eyes but went and got a plate from the
counter.
“Have you thought about what Ryan said earlier when he apologized to you?” Emily asked, breaking the silence.
“And what was that?” I asked
12:30
“About you and him becoming friends,” Emily asked.
“I don’t think that will ever happen,” I replied. I felt sad for some reason knowing Ryan, and I would never be close.
“Why,” Emily asked. It wasn’t a good idea to tell her how I was feeling betrayed by her brother for the way he spoke to me at their parent’s party. Or about how I hated thinking about Emily’s brother being with that Jane girl. I felt a pain in my chest every time I thought about hearing her moaning his name when I was in Emily’s room. I knew I was going crazy.
“He doesn’t like me much, plus I don’t think his girlfriend would want him to be my friend,” I said. I was sure Emily could hear the sadness in my voice.
“Jane has no say in who Ryan becomes friends with,” Emily said.
“She is his girlfriend. I am sure she doesn’t want him hanging around with me. Besides, your brother said some messed up stuff to me. I don’t know if I want him as a friend,” I replied
“I know he was rude to you that day, but he is truly sorry. I hope you will forgive him soon, and Jane is not his girlfriend anymore,” Emily said. I was shocked to hear they were no longer together. He seemed annoyed by her presence at the restaurant. Either way, I wasn’t sure I would want him as a friend. Not after the way he treated me before. “Just think about it, V,” Emly said
“Okay, I will think about it.”
The next day Emily and I took Sofia to daycare and then went to class. “I am already ready for this day to be over with,” Emily said, causing me to laugh.

“It isn’t that bad. It’s better than online school,” I said.
“If you say so.

“Good morning, class,” The teacher started to say, but someone walked into the room, causing everyone to look by the
classroom door. I couldn’t believe who I was seeing.
“What the f*****is she doing here? She isn’t even studying business,” Emily said
“Hello, I am your new student, Jane Smith.”
“Oh, of course, come inside and find a seat,” the teacher said. Jane looked around until she spotted Emily and me and walked toward us. “Do you mind if I sit next to you?” Jane asked, looking at me with a smile on her face.
“Sure,” I said, but I really didn’t want her sitting by me.
“Thank you,” Jane replied. I looked at Emily, who was glaring at Jane. Jane looked at her and smiled. “Hello, Emily. How are you doing today?” She said, and Emily rolled her eyes at her and turned her attention to the teacher, and I did the same thing.
“Class, we will be starting a project where you will create a business with another student. First, I want everyone to pick their partners and let me know who you have chosen. Then, I will tell you more about the project.”
“Excuse me,” Jane said, lifting her hand to get the teacher’s attention.
“Yes, Ms. Smith.”
“I am new here and don’t know anyone. I was wondering if I

could work with Violet. I have met her before,” Jane said

“If Violet doesn’t mind working with you, that will be fine,” the teacher said
“Will you work with me?” Jane asked, looking at me. I didn’t want to, but I was put on the spot. She had never done anything to me, so working with her wouldn’t be too bad. It was only for a project.
“Sure, I will work with you,” I replied.
“Violet and I were already going to become partners, and everyone else has chosen their partner,” Emily said
“Since there is an odd number of students, you can join their group,” The teacher said. I could see Jane rolling her eyes. It seemed Emily and Jane didn’t like each other.
The teacher explained what we would do for the project for the rest of the class.
“Violet,” Jane called once class was over, causing me to look at her. “I wanted to say I am sorry for how rude Ryan was to you the other day.”
“You have no reason to apologize, Jane. You were not the one that was mean to me,” I replied
“He has been acting different lately and broke up with me for no reason. I don’t know what is wrong with him, but I would like you and me to become friends,” Jane said. I thought about it for a moment, and there was no reason why I couldn’t be her friend. She has been nothing but nice to me all day and has never done anything to make me not like her
