Chapter 26

Violet’s POV

“I agree with you, V. Ryan was wrong for rejecting you, and it is good you told him he would have to prove himself to you. He is my brother, but I still can’t believe he would do that to you. I only hope you realize he is sorry for what he did,” Emily said.

“I can tell he is sorry, but I am not risking anything. Sof is the most important person to me, and I promised myself I would never let anyone abuse her. Our father was a terrible person after my mom passed away. I can’t go through being mistreated again,” I said

“I get what you are saying, V. I can assure you my brother would never mistreat you or Sof. I understand what you are saying, though, and I think it’s good you are showing Ryan he can’t get away with what he did to you. Jane would let him do whatever he wanted while they were together. It’s good you are showing him you will not take any disrespect,” Emily said.

“I am definitely not Jane. I told him if he wanted a chance with me, he couldn’t mess around with anyone else because I don’t share,” I said.

“You would never have to share him V. You are his Mate, which means he wants no one else but you,” Emily said. Ryan had told me the same thing, but I wasn’t too sure it was true.

“How could you be so sure of that?” I asked

“Because the Moon Goddess made you two for each other. You are Ryan’s perfect match, and he is yours. Think about it. Have you been interested in any other man since you met him?” Emily asked

“I never thought about it,” I said. It wasn’t like I was looking for someone to be with.

“This is what I want you to do. The next time you are around an attractive man. Think about being intimate with him and see if it doesn’t make you sick to your stomach. I don’t know if the Mate bond works the same on humans as on werewolves, but I know that once a werewolf meets their Mate, all attraction they had for anyone else disappears. They feel sick for ever thinking about or touching anyone else sexually,” Emily said

“Really,” I asked, shocked.

“Yep, the best part about finding your mate is that you don’t have to worry about them cheating on you because you are the ‘only one your mate wants,” Emily said. It sounded nice not

having to worry about the person you were with cheating on you. That would mean I wouldn’t have to worry about Ryan messing around on me if I accepted him, but that didn’t mean I wouldn’t have to worry about him treating Sof badly.

“That sounds nice not having to worry about getting cheated on, but there is still one more problem,” I said

“What is that?” Emily asked

“How do I know he will accept Sof? She might be my sister, but I am the closest thing to a parent she has ever had. I can’t let anyone happen to her physically or emotionally,” I said

“I understand you are worried about him accepting Sof because of how he treated you at first, but you don’t have to worry. He would never do anything to hurt her,” Emily said

“I still have to be careful. She is my little sister,” I replied

“I know. I also wanted to apologize to you for keeping the whole werewolf thing a secret. When I first met you, I felt a connection to you, like we were going to be great friends. Now I know it was because you are my brother’s Mate, which makes you my practically my sister. I want you to know that is how I think of you as my sister, and I hope you aren’t upset with me for not telling you about all of this. It must suck finding out about werewolves and mates the way you did,” Emily said

“Yeah, it was messed up the way I found out werewolves were real, but I am not mad at you. I am sure you didn’t know how to tell me. You had done a lot for Sof and me even before you knew I was your brother’s Mate, and that means a lot to me. I also see you as my sister,” I replied

“Thank you so much, V. I thought you were going to be mad at me when you found out,” Emily said.

“I am about tired and need to go to bed. I will see you in the morning,” Emily said.

“I will see you too,” I replied, and she left the room. Llooked over at Sof, who was sleeping on the bed peacefully. I decided I should take a shower to calm my nerves. All of this Mate bond and werewolf talk was frustrating me.

I walked into the bathroom and removed my clothes before getting into the shower. I let the warm water relax my tense muscles and washed my body with my vanilla–scented body

wash. After I was done showering, I brushed my hair and teeth and put on a long t–shirt and shorts.

As I lay in bed, I couldn’t stop thinking about Ryan and everything he said to me. I was happy he wanted to prove to me that he would never hurt Sof or me, but I was still upset he rejected me because of Sof. I had to make sure he meant everything he had told me before I gave him a chance, no matter how much I wanted to be with him.
