Chapter 13

Violet’s POV

I woke up in an empty bed. I automatically knew I was in Emily’s bed at her parent’s house. I looked at the clock on her

nightstand and saw it was eleven. I was shocked that I slept so long because I usually was woken by Sofia around eight in the morning.

I hardly got any sleep last night thinking about Ryan. I had the same dream again about us having sex and him biting into my neck, saying I was his.

I got out of bed and into Emily’s bathroom. She had given me some clothes I could wear today last night since all my clothes were at our house. I used the restroom and then hopped into the shower. I let the warm water relax my muscles and cleaned myself with the strawberry–scented body wash Emily had in her bathroom.

Once I was done, I put on the green sundress she let me borrow and tied my hair in a high ponytail. Then, I brushed my teeth and headed out of Emily’s room to find Sofia. When I walked downstairs, I saw Emily watching cartoons with other children. her age. She was sitting by a girl her age on the floor.

“Hey, V., Your finally awake,” Emily said as she walked up to me.

“Why didn’t you wake me up?” I asked

“You seemed tired, plus I was sure you didn’t get much sleep

with all the tossing a turning you were doing,” Emily said. I couldn’t help the blush that crept on my face thinking about what I dreamed of last night.

“You even called out Ryan’s name while you were sleeping a few times,” Emily whispered in my ear.

“What? No, I didn’t,” I said.

“Don’t worry. I won’t tell anyone,” Emily said.

“Tell anyone what?” I looked over to see Ryan walking over to

“Oh, nothing important,” Emily said.

“Hey, Violet. I hope you slept well last night,” Ryan said

“No. I kept dreaming of you,” I thought to myself.

“I did. Thank you,” I lied.

“Good. Are you hungry? Everyone else has already eaten, but I made you a plate and put it up when Emily said you were still asleep,” Ryan said

“Thanks, yes, I am hungry,” I replied. I looked at Sofia, who was watching TV. I wondered if I should bring her with me.

“She will be okay with the other children,” Emily said. They were sitting with other adults, one of them being Traci, so I knew she was safe. I followed them into the dining area.

“You sit, and I will get your plate for you,” Ryan said

“That is fine. I can get it,” I said

“I insist,” Ryan said, and I sat at the table by Emily. I didn’t understand why it made me feel happy that he wanted to get my plate for me.

“I told you he was sorry and wanted to start over. I think you should give him a chance. He really likes you,” Emily said

“He barely knows me,” I replied before Emily could respond. Ryan was back with my plate in hand.

“Enjoy,” he said. I looked at the plate with pancakes, bacon, sausage links, and eggs. My mouth began to water, seeing all the delicious food that smelled great.

As I was eating, Ryan asked Emily about how school was going.

“Hey, Ry. Hey, Violet and Emily.” I looked up to see Jane walking toward us with a smile on her face.

“Hello, Jane,” I said, returning her smile with one of my own.

“Hi,” Emily said. I could tell she was annoyed.

“What are you doing in here, Jane? I thought I told you we were over,” Ryan said. I frowned at him at how rude he was to her.

“I Know that Ry, and I understand. I came here to see if Emily and Violet wanted to work on our project since we didn’t get any work done because Emily argued with me the entire time we were at the library. I am sure Violet wants to get a good grade. Right, Violet?” Jane asked. She was right. I didn’t want to mess up in school. I had always gotten good grades, and now that I was finally going to a campus, I wanted to keep it that way.

“I think that’s a good idea,” I replied

“I wasn’t the only one arguing yesterday,” Emily said, glaring at Jane.

“You guys can study after Violet finishes eating,” Ryan said. Jane looked at him with a frown on her face, like she was upset or sad that he was acting as if he cared for me. She quickly covered it up with a smile, but it was too late. I had already seen the sadness in her eyes. I felt terrible because he was her ex- boyfriend, and for some reason, I knew he had broken up with her because of me.

“Okay, I will wait for you two in the backyard,” Jane said and walked out of the dining area.

“Did you have to speak to her so cruelly,” I asked, glaring at Ryan. Ryan and Emily looked shocked at what I had just asked him and the sound of my voice.

“I need to ask mom something real quick. I will be right back,” Emily said and walked out of the room.

“What are you talking about, Voilet,” Ryan asked:

“You were with Jane, and now you are speaking to her evilly. You are hurting her feelings. You know she still has feelings for you,” I said

“I know, but I don’t have any for her. Is that wrong that I don’t want to be with her anymore?” Ryan asked

“No. But you don’t have to be so cruel to her,” I replied.

“You don’t know her, Violet. She isn’t a good person,” Ryan said

“Then why were you with her?‘ I asked

“I was dumb.”

“Why don’t you want her anymore?‘ I asked, already knowing the

answer.

“Because I want to be with you,” Ryan said, placing his hand on mine. Suddenly a lot of tingles went through my hand where he was touching me, causing me to gasp. It wasn’t a bad feeling, more of a pleasurable one.

“You don’t know me, and you were just rude to me not that long ago. What changed in such a short time?” I asked

“I was being stupid,” Ryan said, connecting his lips to mine. Tingles went through my entire body as he kissed me. I could feel myself getting wet in my core, causing a moan to come from my mouth.
