Chapter 14
When Jason’s swing went awry, the are and wood flew off and headed straight for David and Rị
Everyone was in a state of shock.
David and Ryan were caught off guard by the sudden mishap and had no time to react.
“Mr. Smith! Mr. Jenkins!” All the color drained from Jason’s checks
If that axe hit them, it could be bad–maybe even fatal
Panic kicked in. He thought, Will I get arrested right then and there?
In a split second, a pair of arms swooped in. They pushed Ryan out of the way and then pulled David aside.
Janie dodged skillfully, and the axe barely grazed her delicate checks.
Almost at the same time, Jackson reached out and grabbed the axe, saving all the carefully arranged props from being destroyed.

the axe back where it belonged with ease. Only then did everyone around him begin to come to their senses.
David stumbled a few steps before steadying himself, catching a faint whiff of gardenia in the air.
He stared intently at Janie, who seemed to glow with a soft, striking light.
Ryan wasn’t so lucky. He ended up on the ground looking rather ridiculous.
Seeing that David was fine made him wonder if Janie had planned this whole thing
But honestly, falling down was much better than getting hit by an axe.
Ryan couldn’t help but look at Janie – she still cared about him.
The staff helped Ryan up off the ground.
David walked over to Janse with a warm smile and said, “Miss Janie. Towe you so much for this! You saved my life! If you ever need anything from me, just let me know.
Jane shrugged casually and replied, “It’s no big deal”
Remembering how close she had come to danger earlier, David asked worriedly. “Are you hurt?”
Janie shook her head confidently. “Nope”
Ryan also stepped forward and said sincerely mixed with gratitude, Thanks so much for that, Janie”
Jande, not really in the mood to chat, shrugged it off and said, “Don’t mention it.”
Ryan went quiet
Jason finally snapped back to reality, panic written all over his face. “Mr. Smith! Mr. Jenkins, I’m so sorry! It was all my fault that I messed up. I didn’t mean to cause you trouble. Thank you, Miss Janie.”
He continued bow as he apologized.
David decided not to make a big deal out
out of it and simply said, “Just be more careful next time?
Kyan didn’t hold back, “If you can’t handle it, don’t try it.”
Jason’s mouth twitched as he nodded eagerly, “Yeah, you’re righ
Ryan paid no attention to him.
The program staff quickly calmed down David and Hyan while giving heartfelt thanks and praise to Janie and Jackson.
Thanks so much to both of you?
“Yeah, that was such a close call
Jackson waved his hand dismissively and said, “No worries Janie has always been very helpful. I’m just following her lead”

Janie shot him a glance and added casually. “It’s just a small favor. Let’s get back to what we were doing

Janie, you’re amazing! And super cool!]
[David’s expression doesn’t look like he’s acting.
Mr. Walker looked at Jason and felt a headache coming on.
He said. “We didn’t think this through. Not everyone knows how to chop wood. Then the staff will take
you
No one wanted to risk trying to chop wood anymore, whether they could do it or not.

Jackson perked up. “Come on. Janie, we haven’t collected firewood yet?”
Janie smiled softly as she moved closer to him.
Jason kept apologizing with a grin on his face. “Mr. Smith, Mr. Jenkins, 1-”
David strode over to Janir and Jackson with a unile.
“Mind if I join you guys

Honestly Jackson wasn’t happy about him tagging along
He hadn’t seen Janie for a long ume and just wanted to be alone with her for a while!
it he didn’t want to be rude. He has no bad feelings toward David after all
Before Jason could finish his words, David had already left.
Of course, Jason was unhappy inside, but now that he had no choice, he decided to stay close to Ryan
Ryan felt reluctant but held back her feelings,
By the time Xena was back from the vegetable picking, they were gone.
When they found out what happened, everyone was in shock.
Molly admired them somewhat but regretted missing out on
Xena grinned and said excitedly. “Janie is amazing! I want to go collect firewood with them. Who’s in!”
Ermaly chuckled and replied cheerfully. “Let’s go”
Too bad you guys aren’t here. Janie is seriously awesome!]
Jackson frit slightly annoyed by David trailing after the
Stop following us and go far muttered to himself.
At first, David tried to help Jande carry the basket but was illatly refused.
Janie happilly carries a small basket on her back, cheerfully
gathering firewood.
Jackson and David, inspired by her energy, start picking up sticks with even more enthusiasm.

to collect firewood”
Ryan couldn’t help but glance at Janie.
When she returned to the Jenkins Family five years ago, she had never been so happy.
Back then, she always had this distant look on her face like nothing mattered to her.
Even when Zion tried to pick fights with her, she stayed calm never angry or bothered.
It felt like they were total strangers.
She never seemed to care for any of the Jenkins family.
Ryan lowered his gaze slightly. It turned out that Janie never saw them as family.
Jason chatted excitedly with Ryan but noticed he kept staring at Janie and secretly looked down on him for it
Jackson had already caught Ryan’s jealous stare
He felt a mix of satisfaction and annoyance.
Ryan treated Janie badly in the past but still looked at her like that
Jackson felt
gross
[Is there any relationship between Ryan and Janie? Ryan’s eyes are a bit complicated.]
[Come on, don’t make it worse. Janie is just eye candy:]
It’s Ryan who’s staring at Janie. We said what we saw. What does that have to do with Janie‘]
David wanted to chat with Janie but wasn’t sure what to say.
Jackson said. “Janie, don’t be so happy to collect firewood, okay?? Janie shot him a look, “What’s up? You want me to start crying?
Jackson grinned playfully, “Well, that’s not off the talle
He hadn’t seen Janie cry before
Janie glared at him but couldn’t help but laugh, “Before I shed any tears, you better believe you’ll be
you’ll be crying first.”
