Chapter 24
Harrison stood frozen.
Meanwhile, Scarlett looked at him as she spoke each word with chilling clarity, “Harrison, if you spent over 20 years waiting for someone in your past life, only to be betrayed and killed because of their selfishness, would you give them another chance if you lived again?
“Would you waste even a minute on them?”
Color drained from Harrison’s face. He stood then, speechless.
Scarlett continued calmly, “The look on your face already tells me your answer. So now, I hope you can understand mine. Don’t come looking for me again, Harrison.”
With that, she turned and walked away without a second glance.
Harrison remained rooted in place, his mind spiraling.
That dream had always felt too real. And now, Scarlett had confirmed that it wasn’t just a dream. She had lived through all that suffering.
Harrison suddenly collapsed to the ground. His eyes were filled with despair. He had thought the dream was a warning–a chance to see his true feelings before it was too late.
But no. It had been Scarlett’s reality.
And if she had truly gone through all of that, then she would never forgive him.
At that thought, Harrison covered his face and broke into sobs.
Time passed in a blur. Seven years flew by.
Scarlett stood among her fellow researchers, watching as the manned spacecraft touched down successfully. The entire team erupted into cheers.
They knew this marked the complete success of their project. The culmination of ten years of
research had finally come to an end.
Excitement buzzed through the crowd.
“We can finally go home! I wonder if my kid will even recognize me.
“I wonder if my mom’s arthritis has gotten any better over the years.”
Everyone was talking about their families, eagerly looking forward to the day they could finally go home.
Scarlett, however, remained quiet because she had no home to return to. Her parents were
gone, and Harrison was nothing but a stranger ow. Going back was just another step in her quiet, solitary life.
She made her way home without much thought. But when she arrived, she found Ella waiting
for her.
“Scarlett! You’re finally back.”
Ella grabbed her hands. Her voice was thick with emotion as she said, “If you had taken any longer, Harry might not have lived to see you one last time.”
“What?” Scarlett froze.
