Chapter 7
Avery never expected Joshua to say that he wanted a marriage that would last forever.
“If you’re planning to spend your life with me, then let’s get married. If you’re just trying to get back at Clyde or looking for a powerful man, I don’t have time to waste on you.”
Avery fell silent.
Seeing that she didn’t respond, Joshua stood up and said, “I still need to prepare for the birthday banquet. Don’t bother me again.”
Avery suddenly came to her senses. Samson’s birthday banquet was coming up, and the whole Smith family would be there. If she registered her marriage with Joshua and announced it during the banquet, wouldn’t Clyde have to address her as his aunt in front of everyone there?
Besides, it wouldn’t be too bad to rely on Joshua’s influential status for life.
After weighing the pros and cons, Avery looked up, only to see Joshua already at the door.
She quickly got up and chased after him. “Wait!
Joshua paused. “Yes?”
Avery mustered up the courage and looked directly into his eyes. “I’m willing to spend my life with you!”
After saying that, she felt something was off and quickly added, “If you regret it later and want a divorce, I’ll leave with nothing… I won’t…”
His cold lips crashed into hers, silencing the rest of her words.
He kissed her assertively until she could hardly breathe. He only released her when she was about to suffocate.
“Next time, if you forget how I am in bed again, I won’t be this gentle.”
Avery covered her swollen lips and furrowed her brows slightly. Was he a dog? Why was he biting all the time?
Seeing her pout, Joshua couldn’t help but chuckle. “That’s how you learn not to be forgetful.”
A mischievous glint crossed Avery’s eyes. “I hate others coveting what’s mine. To be safe, Mr. Smith, how about I leave a mark on you?”
Joshua raised an eyebrow, silently giving his permission.
Avery was thrilled. She stood on tiptoe and bit down on his neck.
Joshua felt a sharp pain and frowned slightly. But when he noticed how hard it was for her to reach him even on her tiptoes, he bent down a little.

Since then, Avery had never worn a bangle again
“You’re amazing, Ave!”
Cassandra’s voice snapped Avery out of her thoughts. She was looking at Avery excitedly. “You even managed to catch Joshua, who never gets close to women. You’re my role model!”
Avery didn’t look pleased.
She couldn’t even handle Clyde. How could she possibly deal with Joshua?
Back then, Clyde had sworn in front of all his friends that he would love only her for life. But on their wedding day, he still got into bed with Abigail.
By the way, why are you here all of a sudden?”
Cassandra slapped her forehead. “Oh, I almost forgot! Howard said he’s throwing you a birthday party. He invited basically everyone you know!”
With that, she pulled out an invitation from her handbag and handed it to Avery.
Just as Avery was about to take it, her phone rang.
It was Molly.
“You little brat! Do you plan to live a wild life outside forever and never come home?” Molly started scolding her immediately.
“Why are you calling me?” Avery wasn’t in the mood to waste time with her.
“Is this how you talk to your mother? What have I done wrong to deserve a daughter like you? Why can’t earn from your sister and be a better daughter?”

Avery sneered, “What should I learn from her? How to shamelessly seduce someone else’s fiancé?”
“How dare you bring that up!” Molly snapped at her. “You can’t even win Mr. Clyde’s heart, and now, you’re deliberately ruining Abigail’s reputation. How could you be so malicious?”
Avery couldn’t help but laugh.
Abigail seduced her fiancé, but Molly blamed her for not winning him over and for not giving in to Abigail.
If someone didn’t know better, they would think Abigail was her real daughter while Avery was the adopted one.
Just as Avery was about to hang up, Howard’s voice came through the phone. He scolded Molly, “Ave is your real daughter! How could you talk to your own daughter like that?”
On the other end, Molly began to sob, and soon, Howard spoke into the phone, “Ave, your mom’s just worried about Abigail’s future and took her frustration out on you. Don’t take it to
heart.”
“Get to the point. If you don’t, I’m hanging up,” Avery said impatiently.
There was a moment of silence before Howard said, “Your birthday’s the day after tomorrow, right? Your mom and I are thinking of throwing you a birthday party. You should come home and see if it’s to your liking.”
When Avery heard his words, she found it ironic.
Since returning to the Sinclair residence, no one had ever thrown her a birthday party.
She didn’t believe that Howard and Molly suddenly had a change of heart and wanted to be good to her. Most likely, they were thinking she might be useful to them again.
