Chapter 50
Joshua said. “From now on, unless it’s a gift from Mrs. Smith, everything else must be thrown out.”
“Understood.” Delcan nodded and left the room.
Joshua turned to Avery with a look et apology. “This was my fault. I promise it won’t happen again.”
“It’s fine I don’t mind.” She was somewhat taken aback by his sincerity.
“As your husband, it’s my responsibility to stay loyal to our relationship and keep my distance from other women–not because you mind, but because I should,” he said, his tone
serious.
She felt a strange sensation in her chest. When she was with Clyde, he often received gifts from other women.
Every time she questioned him about it, he’d respond impatiently, saying that as the Smith family’s eldest son, it was normal for people to send him gifts, and she shouldn’t overthink it. He never let her look at those gifts, either.
But here was joshua apologizing for a gift fr

from another woman and promising it wouldn’t happen again.
While she was lost in thought, he placed a peeled shrimp into her bowl, snapping her out of her daze. She said, “I m fall, but thank you.”
He stopped peeling the shrimp and reminded her that he would pick her up later that evening. After that, he drove her home.
Once home, she relaxed with a bath and then decided to take a nap, knowing she had a big challenge ahead of her that evening.
Though Louisa had treated her well when she was with Clyde, she wasn’t sure how Louisa would react now that she was stepping into a daughter–in–law’s role. It could go either

She soon drifted off into a long dream. In the dream, she was ten years old again, standing by an artificial lake. From a distance, she saw two men push a young boy into the water.
She hid behind a large tree, frozen with fear, not daring to move until they had left. Then, she grinted her teeth and jumped in to save the boy.
She managed to pull the boy out, but despite her efforts, he remained unconscious. Eventually, she performed CPR on him, and the boy’s eyes flustered open. His brown eyes looked strangely familiar
Just as she was about to ask his name, his features shifted, and the boy’s face morphed into Joshua’s
“If they findout it was you who saved me, they’ll take revenge on you” With that, Joshua pushed her away.
Avery shot up from the bed, her heart racing. It took a long moment for her to catch her breath She glanced at the clock. It was still early, and since she couldn’t get back to sleep. she decided to get up and prepare Joshua’s medicine
It was said that Joshua’s persistent cough was caused by a childhood drowning incident. The Smith family had sought out numerous doctors, but none had been able to cure him completely
Suddenly, her hand trembled, spilling the powder onto the floor.
Drowning. Where had joshua fallen into the water all those years ago? Could it have been that same artificial la
The thought startled Avery
The boy she saved all those years ago had told her to leave quickly and even gave her a red string as a token. Before she could ask his name, someone had come looking for him, and he urged her to run, so she left
Later, she met Clyde, and he also had a red string–the same one that the boy gave her.
When Clyde saw the red string on her wrist, he insisted that he was the one she had saved when they were children. For the next two years, he treated her well and kind to her
