Chapter 49
Joshua’s voice carried a hint of helplessness as he spoke. Avery tumed her head, suspicion written all over her face. The place was empty, with no other guests in sight. She froze for a moment, remembering there were people when they arrived
“Do you like being watched by a lot of people?” Joshua raised an eyebrow. “If that’s the case, we can make it happen next time.”
Avery quickly covered his mouth
Joshua wasn’t bothered. Instead, he kissed her palm, feeling the warmth of her skin against his lips. She immediately shivered as though she had been burned, swillly retracting
ber hand.
He pulled her back into her seat. “Since you won’t treat me to a meal, I’ll treat you Instead ”
She was about to refuse, but just as she opened her mouth, the server came over with dishes, bringing one delicious plate after another. Her stomach growled in response.
In the end, she couldn’t resist the allure of the food, turning her frustration into appetite, and ended up eating two extra plates of pasta
“Why do you keep staring at me?” she finally snapped, unable to stand joshua’s gaze anythore.
“I just think you can really eat,” he replied casually.
She was so annoyed she almost laughed she remembered the earlier tension between them and retorted, “It’s not like I’m eating your food!
He paused, then silently added some more food to her plate. “Eat I can afford to feed you whatever you want.”
She was speechless.
After the meal, as she saw him taking his medicine, she suddenly recalled something. “Did you finish the medicine I gave you last time?” “Yeah. It worked well”
“Then, I’ll get you a few more doses and bring them over
“Actually, there’s no need for that,” he replied in a casual tone. “You should pack your things later and come stay with me at Serenity Manor. It’ll save you from having to bring me medicine all the time.”
“No way!”
She immediately rejected him, but he acted as if he didn’t hear, continuing, “Also, you’re coming with me to the Smith family residence tonight”
She raised an eyebrow. To the Smith residence? Do you want me to help you deal with your mom?”
“Deal with her?” Joshua frowned slightly.
Avery forced a smile. “Why do you suddenly want to take me to see your family?
He rubbed his forehead. “Cecilla went to see my mother today, saying she wants to stay at the Smith residence for a while.”
Once, the Yates family was considered one of the four prestigious families in juville, alongside the Henderson, Hodge, and Smith families. But over time, the Yates family fell behind and eventually left Juville.
Penny Crowe–Cecilia’s mother and Louisa used to be best friends. So, when Cecilia, the Yates family’s eldest daughter, wanted to stay at the Smith residence, Louisa naturally wouldn’t refuse
Avery couldn’t help but chuckle. “Are you worried your mom will try to play matchmaking with you and Cecilia?”
“We have nothing between us,” Joshua replied bluntly
Avery nodded, not asking any more questions.
Noticing her silence, his brow furrowed even further. But in the end, he didn’t press the issue.
Just then, Delcan entered, holding a small box “Mr. Smith, this is a gift from Ms. Yates. She had someone deliver it to you.”
