Chapter 47
“Take her back to the Sinclair residence and tell Howard that if he can’t control his wife, then he might as well forget about running his business,” Joshua said coldly,
He then carefully arranged the flowers he brought beside William’s grave and spent some time with Avery, talking softly to the tombstone, before finally leading her away. Once in the car, he handed her a tissue “Don’t put on a show and cry when there’s wind next time. It runs your face.”
She paused for a moment, surprised, and turned to him. “How did you know I was pretending”
“Because you wouldn’t cry over a few words, especially from someone who’s already disappointed you completely.”
She fell silent for a beat before remarking, “You seem to know me pretty well.”
“You don’t have much to hide. It’s easy to figure you out.”
His voice was calm, and she couldn’t help looking at his face, trying to read him, but she found nothing.
“What are you thinking about?” he asked, noticing her gaze
She quickly turned away, pretending nothing had happened. “I was just wondering why you came today.”
“I came to see William ”
Avery was taken aback. If she remembered correctly, he had been abroad for treatment when William was still alive, so they had never met before. She hadn’t expected him to come today.
Although she didn’t fully understand his reasoning, he had brought flowers for William and even helped her out. Out of respect and gratitude, she felt she should show some appreciation
Turning to him, she asked, “Do you have time for lunch at Tom’s? We could grab a bite together.”
“I’m free anytime for you.”
Avery blinked. His answer sounded a little ambiguous. What was that supposed to mean?
When they arrived at Tom’s, the waiter handed them the menu. Avery smiled generously at Joshua and said, “Order whatever you want. It’s on me!”
After all, the money came from his niece
Once they put down their order, she suddenly turned to him. “Uncle Joshua, can ask you something?”
The moment she addressed him like that, his expression darkened immediately.
She noticed his change in demeanor and couldn’t help but laugh. She playfully reached for his palm, intending to tilde him, but he quickly pulled his hand away without hestration.
She withdrew her hand, feeling a little embarrassed. “Could you give me back that bracelet I had yesterday?”
“What bracelet?” He furrowed his brow, clearly confused
“The one I wore yesterday!”
“I’ve never seen it. “His tone shifted, becoming noticeably colder. “Is that gift so important to you?”
“Of course. It was a precious gift from Jammy,” she replied, leaning forward slightly, closing the distance between them. She locked eyes with him, a mischievous glint in her gaze. “But if you’re so upset, could it be that you’re jealous?”
