Avery couldn’t help but laugh at Melissa’s words. Melissa didn’t seem to be the smartest. Avery didn’t even know why Melissa thought she’d return to help her up after just pushing her down.
“I didn’t come back to help you up,” Avery said, a teasing smile playing on her lips. “But if you’re willing to pay the right price, I might consider it.”
Melissa glared at her with so much hate that it seemed like she wanted to rip her apart, but since she could barely stand, she had to let go of that thought for now.
Avery didn’t bother to waste any more time and, without another word, turned to leave
Seeing her walk away, Melissa panicked “Wait! Stop!”
Avery slowed her pace but didn’t rom around. She noticed the street was getting more crowded, and in her frustration, Melissa gritted her teeth and muttered, “How much do you
“Three million,” Avery said, without hesitation.
““Three million?” Melissa’s eyes nearly popped out of her head. “Are you out of your mind? Why don’t you go sob a bank?”
Ignoring her outburst, Avery continued walking. The street was bustling, and she feared someone might recognize her and see her in this humiliating situation. Through gritted terth, Melissa finally spat out, “Fine, three million it is!”
As soon as she said that, Avery turned around, crouched down in front of her, and pulled out her phone. “Please make the payment first. Do you want to transfer it or..
Melissa’s face went ashen. She had planned to save up for a custom necklace at Lexter’s, but her pocket money wasn’t enough. So, she had intended to sneak behind her parents‘ backs and ask Joshua for some cash.
Despite the tense relationship between her parents and Joshua, he had always been generous with her–her gifts and money during the holidays were always more than what Clyde received. Whenever her allowance fell short, she could count on Joshua to help out
But today, instead of getting the money she wanted, she found hers handing over three mi her whole family in her mind.
She swore she’d make Avery pay for this once she got home.
“Only three million?” Avery’s voice snapped her out of her thoughts, and she lost her patience,
“Avery, don’t get greedy. You agreed to thee million earlier!”
With a pained expression, she transferred the money to Avery, silently cursing
“The three million was for helping you up, but let’s not forget that you were the one who said you’d buy me a mirror so I could see exactly what I was worth, Avery retorted, her voice dripping with sarcasm.
Melissa was left speechless, her mouth hanging open..
Avery wore a satisfied smile, continuing to tease, “Isn’t the Smith family’s daughter going to honor her word?”
By now, more and more people were looking over. Melissa, clearly fed up, snapped, “How much more do you want?” Avery gave her a sweet smile. “Not much–just another one million, and we’re good”
