“This was your own choke,” Joshua said, releasing Avery and signaling to the maids to take her to the gu
Seeing the playful glint in his eyes, Avery gritted her teeth in frustration. He had deliberately scared her. “If you’re reluctant to leave, you can sleep here. The bed is big enough for both of us.” His voice echoed again, making her shiver in surprise. She turned and bolted out of the
He watched her run off, unable to contain his laughter.
Once Avery was settled in the guest room, she couldn’t stop fuming. The more she thought about it, the angrier she got. She decided that the next time she prescribed medicine for him, she’d give him the most bitter one she could find to make him miserable.
Just as she was stewing over it, her phone rang. It was a video call from Cassandra. When the call connected, Cassandra’s face lit up with curiosity. “Ave, where are you? I don’t think you’re at home.”
“I’m not at home. Did you just get there?” Avery replied, feeling a bit helpless.
Cassandra grinned widely, clearly enjoying the gossip. I just called Jammy, and he told me you got caught by your guy when you were giving him the watch. So, did he get jealous?
Ar the mention of Joshua, Avery felt a surge of frustration. “Don’t mention him!”
“Oh, look who’s angry now,” Cassandra teased, her grin widening. “Ican still see that your lips are a little swollen. You two.”
Avery shot her a glare. “Abad influence has been rubbing off on
n you.”
Seeing that Avery was genuinely annoyed, Cassandra stopped teasing her and became serious. She looked at her with a thoughtful expression.
“Ave, honestly, I think Joshua might be a better match for you. Think about it–he’s successful, isn’t involved in scandals, and clearly likes you a lot..”
“Stop!” Avery interrupted, cutting her off. “Don’t talk about that again.”
Cassandra, however, was persistent “Jammy told me that Joshua directly picked you up and walked away in front of so many people. How is that not love?”
A complex emotion flickered in Avery’s eyes. “Maybe. Maybe it’s because I remind him of someone he cares about.”
“What?” Cassandra looked at her in shock, stunned into silence for a moment.
Avery, seting Cassandra’s worried expression, didn’t want to keep her stressing over it. She forced a smile. “Don’t worry about me. You must be tired after a long day, so get some rest. I’m hanging up now.”
Cassandra wanted to say something else, but listening to Avery’s words, she swallowed what she wanted to say.
“Alright, rest up. Don’t be too upset. There are plenty of good men out there, so you’re not missing out. I’ve got three brothers you can choose from!”
Avery couldn’t help but laugh at her teasing “Fine, but don’t forget to bring me a gift when you’re back”
Cassandra modded, and after they exchanged goodnights, Avery hung up
The idea that Joshua had someone else in his heart didn’t bother her at all. After all, she didn’t have any feelings for him and was only close to him because she sought his protectie
But what puzzled her was that if Joshua had someone he truly cared about, why would he want to marry her and even hold a wedding for her? Was it just to make the woman he truly loved jealous?
As these thoughts swirled in her head, she couldn’t help but wonder what kind of woman could make someone like Joshua act this way.

Joshua had a meeting to attend, while Avery sat down with the designers to discuss how to tum herring design sketch into reality. After some back–and–forth, the designers understood her vision and began working on creating a prototype.
By the time the meeting wrapped up, it was already close to noon. Avery decided there was no reason to stay any longer, so she headed toward the door to leave for the clinic. Just as she stepped outside, she ran into Melissa.
Melissa passed when she saw her, then sneered. “Are you here to beg Uncle Joshua to take you back after being chased out?”
Avery looked at the smug Melissa and shook her head in mock regret “what a pity.”
Melissa was momentarily thrown off “What are you trying to say now?
“I’m just feeling sorry for you.” Avery shrugged, feigning Innocence. “It’s a shame
Before Melissa could respond, Avery turned to leave. But Melissa, still contused, stepped in her way. “What exactly are you talking about?”
“Nothing” Avery flashed a smile. “I just think it’s a shame that someone with such big eyes only uses them to throw tantrums.”
You-* Melissa fumed, her hand raised to slap Avery, but just as she was about to strike, Avery grabbed her wrist and held it firmly.
Avery smirked. “Is this what your family taught you? Hitting your elders?”
After several tailed attempts to free herself, Melissa, now frantic, screeched, “Who do you think you are? You were just someone who entertained me when I was younger! Do you think you can marry Uncle Joshua? if you can’t afford a mirror, I can buy one for you-
Before she could finish her rant, Avery gave her a sharp push, Unprepared, she lost her balance and fell to the ground with a thud.
Avery looked down at her, feigning surprise. “Oh, what happened? Why’d you fall all of a sudden?”
Melissa’s tace went pale with pain, and seeing Avery stand there with a mock expression of concem only fueled her anger.
She tried to get up and retaliate, but the sharp pain in her foot stopped her in her tracks. It was clear she’d speained her ankle. Avery looked down at her. “Do you need me to help you up?
Melissa, seething with rege, hissed, “Stop acting like you care! If it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t be in th

“Well, il you don’t need help, I guess I’ll just leave,” Avery said, slinging her bag over her shoulder and walking away
Melissa shot her a venomous glare as she watched her leave, her frustration mounting
She sat on the ground for what felt like forever, waiting for someone to help her, but no one came. Finally, she couldn’t take it anymore and yelled at the nearby security guards,” Are you all blind? Someone help me up!”
The guards, however, lowered their heads, ignoring her completely.
Melissa was on the verge of losing it and was about to throw another tantrum when the sound of high heels echoed through the hallway. She looked up, only to see Avery walking back toward her, looking down at her from above.
she reached out, gritting her wreth. “Aren’t you going to help me up
Though she didn’t want Avery’s help, she had no choice–Avery was the only one around who would assist her.
Avery looked at her outstretched hand, amused by the sense of entitlement.
Melissa, growing impatient, snapped, “Well? Are you going to help me or not? If you do, I might just let it slide this time!
