“You ungrateful woman! Have I not treated you well enough? Are you helping Avery just because you’re trying to get close to Uncle Joshua Melissa shouted, fury in her e
Teresa coveted her face, looking up at Melissa in disbelief.“Melissa. ”
“Don’t you dare call my name!” Melissa slapped her across the face again. The force of the slap sent Teresa stumbling backward, almost falling to the ground. Teresa held her stinging cheek with one hand, biting her lip to keep herself from crying out in pain, afraid that any sound would only provoke Melissa further,
Que of Melissa’s friends whispered to her, “Ms. Smith, you should stay far away from this jinx. Anyone who gets close to her is bound to have misfortune. If you didn’t do well in the competition today, it must be because of her.”
“Is that so“““Melissa’s mood lightened a Ettle as she heard this. She had always been praised for her painting skills, and her horrible painting must be because of Teresa’s
influence
She looked at Teresa with growing dislike, tempted to slap her a few more times to vent her frustration. But then, remembering what her friend had said about Teresa bring a jinx, she held herself back
In a buff, Melissa pulled out a tissue from her bag and began wiping her hands, as if they had past touched something disgusting. Once done, she threw the tissue right at Teresa’s face before turning with her friend and storming off.
Teresa clenched her fists so tightly that her nails dug deep into her palms, blood dripping to the ground, but she didn’t notice. Her gaze remained fixed on the direction Melissa had gone, her eyes burning with hatred.
She suddenly broke into a strange, twisted smile and murmured to herself, “Let’s see how long the Smith family can protect you, Melissa.”
Soon after, the competition results were announced, and Avery won first place
When a staff member handed her the prize, the crowd erupted in admiration and envy. Some even suggested buying the prize from her, but Avery ignored them, handing the prize directly to James.

Avery couldn’t help but laugh at his over–the–top reaction Teasing him, she said, “Stick with me, and I’ll make sure you’re thing the good life!”
James laughed along, nodding enthusiastically. They joked around for a while longer before he handed the prize back to her.
Avery paused, confused, as she looked at him.
James smiled and said, “It’s such a great prize. Aren’t you going to keep it for that special someone at home
Avery blinked, finally realizing that he was talking about Joshua.
Seeing her puzzled expression, James shrugged. “Didn’t you say you wanted to give him a gift? This seems like a perfect fit, doesn’t it?”
Avery shook her head. “I won this for you and have already picked out something else for him.”
But James refused, so very simply took the watch out and was about to put it on his wrist when another voice rang out.
*Ms. Sinclair, you are very considerate”
