Chapter 30
A cold smile curled at the corner of Joshua’s lips.
Nathan always liked to play the “nice guy” role, letting Mason take the lead whenever there was a conflict, using him as a pawn while he reaped the benefits from behind the scenes.
For him to come all the way here today must mean something serious was going on. It seemed that his people had handled things well.
“Tell him to leave,” Joshua said.
Delcan hesitated, a look of concern crossing his face. “He came with Ma’am Sandra, who’s out there crying and causing a scene…”
Joshua was frustrated, recognizing he had underestimated Nathan. He had expected him to
come alone, but it seemed like he had brought Sandra along to make a fuss.
Avery, who had overheard, looked worried. She knew exactly how Sandra could be–her sharp
tongue could turn any story upside down. If she caused a scene outside, who knew what kind of rumors would spread the next day?
“Maybe you should go check on them,” Avery suggested.
Joshua sighed, clearly reluctant. He left with Delcan, telling Avery to eat when the meal was ready and not to wait for him.
After he left, Avery began to curiously look around the study. Soon, her attention was drawn to a painting on the wall. It depicted a girl in a purple dress, but what struck her as odd was that the girl in the painting had no facial features.
Staring at the painting, she suddenly remembered what Clyde had said before–that she resembled Joshua’s beloved. Perhaps this painting was something he had created for her.
As she was lost in thought, her phone rang. It was a video call from James.
The moment she picked up, his teasing voice came through. “Ms. Sinclair, where are you? Isn’t Joshua with you?”
“He’s busy. Where are you off to this time?” she replied.
Hearing that Joshua wasn’t with her, James sounded a bit disappointed. “I thought maybe I could catch a glimpse of the handsome guy,” he joked.
But soon, his excitement returned. “Since he’s not around, how about you come out with me? You can buy whatever you want. I’m treating!”
She immediately agreed. James was usually tight–fisted, so for him to offer to treat her was a rare and special occasion. If she passed up the chance, it would be a loss.

After telling him her location, she informed Vera that she had to leave and declined the offer
of a car ride.
She left Serenity Manor in a cheerful mood. She had expected to wait a while, but to her surprise, as soon as she stepped outside, she saw James‘ car parked right by the entrance.
Getting into the car, she looked at him in surprise. “How did you get here so quickly?”
“I wouldn’t dare keep you waiting,” James said with a playful wave. “Come on, I have something to tell you.”
She got into the car, still puzzled. “What’s going on?”
James pulled out his phone and pointed at the top trending news. “Your dear adopted sister, Abigail, and that scumbag have made it to the trending list.”
Avery looked at the screen. Sure enough, not only was it the top trending topic, but the top five spots were all taken up by Clyde and Abigail.
