Chapter 8o Give the Schemer the Shares
Jack spoke before 1 could say anything, and he had a cold sneer on his face. “Remember, you were the one who said before that you wouldn’t use the family’s money. I hope you won’t forget that promise of yours!”
k she started
Next to him, Elsa tugged on his shirt sleeve and pretended to speak up for me, “Don’t say that about Jane, her own business in order to be independent, so we should be encouraging her even if she doesn’t get good results!”
Jack wrinkled his nose at this, looking particularly disdainful. “What more encouragement does she need when she was confident enough to run off and start a business?”
Mom and Dad descended the stairs just as he said this, which prompted Emelda to send him a displeased glare.
“What are you saying to your sister, you brat!” she reprimanded. “If you speak so rudely again, you’re out of the house!”
Jack snorted, but he said nothing more,
“How has your business been going lately, Jae?” asked Mom worriedly. “You can tell us if you encounter any difficulties. We can provide you with some help.”
I smiled. “Don’t worry, my process of starting my business has been progressing smoothly. Currently, I’ve already found several investors. I’ll be able to officially launch a design very soon. I believe that it’ll be a big hit upon launch!”
As soon as the words left my mouth, Jack laughed contemptuously. “I didn’t expect you to make so much progress this quickly, but this is just the beginning. Even if you used to have some talent in the design industry, your skills have long rusted after being married for so many years. I advise you to tone down on the confidence, lest it comes back to bite you in the butt later.”
1 glanced coldly at him. Although 1 felt displeased, he wasn’t wrong
In my previous life, I had indeed let my career go to waste because of love, so this time, I absolutely would not make the same mistake again.
“I’m already aware of my past mistakes, Dad, Mom. Please trust me when I say that once my career has officially gotten on track, I’ll definitely work hard to produce results. I won’t disappoint you!”
My parents were extremely gratified to hear that, but Jack simply glanced suspiciously at me
“Whether or not you can produce results through hard work isn’t something you can just guarantee verbally without the action to back it up,” he said scornfully. “Haven’t you been hanging out with Eric recently?
“I’ll be blunt–your head is just filled with romantic notions. No matter how hard you try, you’re not going to produce any good results.”
Jack truly never missed an opportunity to put me down.
I couldn’t help rolling my eyes at him and retorting, “With that attitude of yours, one would think that you’re my archenemy instead of my biological older brother!”
Jack’s expression darkened instantly.
Seeing that the atmosphere was incredibly tense, Dad immediately spoke up to try and alleviate the tension
“Whatever the case, it’s good that Jae has the motivation to work hard now. Even if she really does tail in the end, she can simply come home and inherit one of the company’s businesses. We have a hand in plenty of industries, so there’s surely one that she’ll be willing to take over!”
As if he had thought of something, Jark immediately straightened in his seat. “Dad, Mom, Elsa’s better at designing than Jae is. In my opinion, since Jae has chosen to start her own business, why not give her company shares to Elsa instead?”
Elsa immediately waved her hands in front of her at that, looking frightened. “That’s not a good idea, is it, Jack? How could we just transfer Jane’s shares to me? Furthermore, even if you’re really willing to go through with that, Jane definitely won’t agree to
I narrowed my eyes. Elsa was probably inwardly ecstatic right now.
Truthfully speaking, I didn’t usually care for what she normally got up to. However, if she was coveting what belonged to me and the Brown family, then I definitely wasn’t going to let her have her way.
“You’re right in that I’m not willing to give them to you,” I stated frankly. “And that’s not all either. I don’t wish to see our parents hand over a single one of the company businesses to Elsa!
“I’ve treated her well enough over the years despite the fact that she deliberately seduced my husband and even slandered me behind my back. Don’t tell me I’m supposed to surrender everything I have to her before she’s willing to quit?”
