Chapter 53 Serve People
1 was utterly confused and looked at Jack as
as if he were an idiot. “What do you mean?”
Jack was even angrier now. “You’re still pretending to be clueless at this point! You’re the only one who has the video, so if it wasn’t you who posted it, then who else could it be?
Elsa had an aggrieved expression. “Jane, it’s fine if you posted the video. I won’t hold it against you. But why refuse to admit it?
I couldn’t help but roll my eyes before quickly checking my phone. Sure enough, I found that the video I had saved had somehow been posted online. Bur the video was edited differently from mine, and the only person who could’ve had access to the original video and the motive to set me up was Elsa.
It seemed like she did this to set me up. I couldn’t help but sneer.
“If I really did it, I’d admit it. Don’t try to frame me here! And by the way, wasn’t someone having a mental breakdown because of her ‘depression‘? Why would she have the energy to come here and make trouble? Looks like she’s perfectly fine!”
Elsa lowered her head in guilt and instinctively hid behind Jack.
Jack protected her with one hand and pointed a finger at me while scolding, “Anyway, you have to apologize to Elsa today, or this won’t be over!”
I raised an eyebrow. “Why should I apologize? And besides, I’m no longer your sister, so what right do you have to give me orders?
He was so angry that his face turned purple. He was about to say something when the venue owner awkwardly spoke up, “Ms. Brown, if you’re busy today, maybe we can reschedule the meeting?”
I almost forgot there was still business to discuss. “Well then, let’s arrange another time,” I said.
As soon as the venue owner left, Elsa stretched her neck and asked eagerly, “Are you planning to buy a house, Jane?
Jack noticed and looked displeased, “Why buy a house? It’s a waste of family money! The money Dad and Mom worked so hard for isn’t for you to squander!!!
I crossed my arms and looked at him with disdain.
“It’s my money. What does it have to do with the family? As for you, I recall you’ve already lost several projects in the company recently, right? Someone as foolish as you should consider it a miracle if you ever manage to keep a business alloat!”
“What did you say?” Jack was so enraged that he almost fainted.
“Jane, as a fine lady, you actually said such vicious things to your own brother!”
I shrugged indifferently. “Sorry, I don’t have a brother anymore.” I didn’t want to keep arguing with them and turned to leave.
But Elsa put on an act of worry again.
Jane, are you planning to start a business? If you are, the family will support you. But you’ve been out of the workforce for so long that you might not be used to the fast pace of business. Maybe it’s better if you just forget about it?”
Jack snorted and joined in, “If she succeeds in starting a business, it’ll be a miracle! She’s been a housewife for so many years. All she knows how to do is serve people. What else can she do?”
My expression darkened.
“Jack, I suggest you go wash your mouth out, or it’ll stink up the whole place! And as for whether I’ll succeed or not, what does that have to do with you? It’s my money; I can spend it however I like. I don’t need you judging me!”
Jack gritted his teeth, glaring at me.
“Elsa was only trying to remind you not to waste money and bring shame to the family, but you’re so ungrateful! I think you should just go back and continue serving Jeremiah instead of running around and causing trouble, or you’ll lose everything and we’ll have to bail you out!”
