Chapter 49 A Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing
Jeremiah’s face turned ashen with fury at my words. He opeised his mouth to say something, but Eric had already stepped in front of me.
“As far as I know, Ms. Elsa here studied interior design, right? I happen to have a friend in the same field. He mentioned that she only achieved her current position by plagiarizing other people’s work. And Cornell Group values her because of those stolen designs.
“Jeremiah, if you had even a shred of common sense, you’d look into this matter more carefully. Otherwise, you’ll end up being conned by the very person you see as precious”
The moment those words left his mouth, the entire room froze. Not just Jeremiah and Elsa, but even I was stunned.
In my past life, I thought Jeremiah valued Elsa for her talent as a designer. I never realized her so–called “talent” was actually stolen.
Eric was impressive. He went straight to the point as soon as he spoke.
“No! Jeremiah, he’s lying!” Elsa’s face turned deathly pale as she stammered out a defense. “Y–You know my abilities better than anyone else! How could I ever plagiarize someone else’s work?”
But Jeremiah’s gaze flickered with doubt as he recalled something. “Elsa, wasn’t there someone who caused a scene at the company a while back, claiming you stole his designs? Could it. Could it actually be true?”
Panic flashed across Elsa’s face. She shook her head frantically as tears welled up in her eyes, making her look pitifully fragile.
“It’s not true! If you don’t believe me, I can prove my ability with my design work! You’ve known me for so long. You know my character. How could you doubt me over the words of an outsider?”
Jeremiah frowned, hesitating for a moment before his eyes filled with disdain as they turned back to me.
“I almost fell for your boyfriend’s lies,” he sneered. “You two just can’t stand seeing me and Elsa happy, so you’re trying to drive a wedge between us. Too bad for you. Elsa is kind and pure–she’d never do such a thing. Your pathetic plan didn’t work!”
He turned to Eric, his gaze dripping with contempt. “And you–what right do you have to interfere in my and Elsa’s business? It’s bad enough you’re sneaking around with Jane, but now, you’re trying to smear Elsa’s name?
“I’m warning you, if you keep spouting nonsense, don’t be surprised when you receive a cease–and–desist letter from my lawyer!”
Watching Jeremiah leap to Elsa’s defense was laughable. He thought he had found an innocent, angelic woman who loved him unconditionally. But little did he know that Elsa was nothing more than a wolf in sheep’s clothing
My patience had worn thin. I looked at them with a cold expression. “If that’s how you feel, then why are you here? Get out. You’re not welcome here. And if you come back uninvited, I’ll have someone throw you out.”
After today, whatever lingering feelings Jeremiah had for me were gone, replaced by disdain and loathing
“Trust me, I have no intention of ever coming back,” he shot back. “Jane, you betrayed me. Don’t come crawling back to me and begging for forgiveness when you finally regret your decisions!”
Me? Beg him?
What a joke.
He was delusional if he thought I’d ever lower myself like that. My future was destined to be far better than his.
After a
rall, in my past life, Elsa married him only to turn around and cheat on him countless times.
He grabbed Elsa’s arm to leave, but she stayed rooted in place, refusing to budge. “Jane, why don’t you move back home? Mom and Dad are really worried about you. Plus, you’re in the midst of your divorce. Living with another man right now could ruin your reputation.”
