Chapter 21 I Won’t Let Anything Happen to You

Elsa tried to stand but collapsed back onto the couch. She was trembling from the pain

Jeremiah frowned, with worry written all over his face. He was confused and couldn’t understand

why Elsa was adamant about not going to the hospital

I seized the moment to speak and urged him, She’s in this much pain, and you’re still listening to

her about not going to the hospital? What if something happens to her….”

Jeremiah’s expression changed. He ignored Elsa’s objections and scooped her up before striding

out the door

After placing her in the back seat of his car, he reassured her, Hang in there, Elsa. I won’t let

anything happen to you

Standing at the door, I watched the car speed off with a cold gaze. It felt deeply satisfying

As I turned to head inside, I was met with a pair of deep unreadable eyes across the street. Eric

walked toward me while I was in a daze

He glanced in the direction Jeremiah had left in with a frown on his face. What happened? Need

my help?”

I shook my head and curled my lips into a goodspirited smile. I’m fine. As for themthey’re just

getting the karma they deserve.”

Eric studied the smile at the corner of my mouth, and a fleeting unreadable emotion crossed his

eyes. He was sharp enough to piece together the gist of the situation and didn’t press further

Instead, he changed the subject. I remember you owe me two meals now. When are you treating

me?”

I looked up at the sky. It was getting late and close to dinnertime. As usual, there’s no better time

than now. How about today?”

I stepped aside and gestured for him to enter. To show my sincerity, I’ll be cooking today. Just sit

tight and wait for a bit.”

Eric seemed surprised. You can cook?”

Before marrying Jeremiah, I was the pampered daughter of the Browns and never had to do any

household chores. My hands were for sketching designs

But in an effort to be the type of woman Jeremiah liked after marriage, I painstakingly learned to

cook and eventually mastered the skill

It was ironic when I thought about it, but now, it was a useful talent for living independently

Chap 211 Won’t Let Anything Happen to You

I blinked and snapped back to reality. Then, I smiled at him. Of course! Don’t underestimate me

My cooking is as good as any professional chef’s.”

I washed Eric some fruits and inquired about his preferences. Then, I headed into the kitchen to

start preparing the meal

Eric followed me into the kitchen and rolled his sleeves to reveal his strong forearms. As he came

over to stand beside me, his gaze swept over the countertop. Anything I can help with?”

I focused on cutting the meat and didn’t look up. No need. You’re a guest, so don’t bother. Just sit

and wait.”

Eric sighed lightly and uttered in a helpless tone, But I’m famished. I might faint from starvation

by the time you’re done.”

I paused before raising my head to shoot him a look of annoyance. Just say you wanna help. No need to exaggerate.”

I handed him some vegetables and requested his help with washing and prepping them

The cooking process sped up considerably with Eric’s help

When I grabbed a plate for the final dish, I didn’t notice a puddle of water on the floor. My foot

slipped, and I stumbled straight into Eric’s arms

Though caught off guard, he instinctively reached out to steady me

My hands landed on his firm chest. Through the thin fabric of his shirt, I could feel his solid

muscles underneath as well as his strong and steady heartbeat

Blinking, I looked up at him in a daze. Eric looked down, and our eyes met. There was a subtle

change in the air
