Chapter 20 Second Attempt at a Reconciliation

Smiling, I nodded and finished the entire glass

Elsa saw me drink the last drop of juice and sighed in relief. Then, she picked up the glass before

her and began sipping it slowly as she chattered

As I watched her drink the juice to the last drop, I could barely hide the smile in my eyes

I patiently made small talk with her for a while before the doorbell rang. Elsa eagerly got up. I’ll

get it.”

I was surprised by the person who entered when the door opened. Jeremiah walked in holding

bouquet of baby’s breath

He was stunned to see Elsa and subtly signaled to her with his eyes

Elsa knew why he was here. Despite her dissatisfaction, she held it back and forced a strained

smile. You’re here, Jeremiah. I was trying to convince Jane not to get a divorce.”

Jeremiah reached out and dotingly ruffled her hair. You’re always this kind.”

The corners of my lips twitched in utter helplessness. The two people supposedly trying to

dissuade me from getting a divorce were now putting on a display of affection

When Jeremiah placed the bouquet in front of me, I raised an eyebrow and asked, “What do you

mean by this?”

Considering the harsh words I had said this morning, it didn’t seem likely he’d come seeking reconciliation again. Yet here he was

It seemed Marcos had given him quite some pressure. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have repeatedly

humbled himself to make amends

Perhaps because Elsa was present, Jeremiah’s tone sounded awkward. Jane, I meant what Isaid

this morning. Come back with me, and I promise I won’t let you down again.”

I accepted the flowers he handed over. Just as his face started to light up with a smile, I tossed the bouquet into the trash

The smile froze on Jeremiah’s lips, and his expression darkened instantly. He glared at me

longer able to contain his anger

no

Gritting his teeth, he snapped, This is the second time I’ve been trying to make it up to you! Don’t push your luck!”

I sneered in disdain, Do I have to agree to reconcile just because you’re begging for it? Don’t you think you think too highly of yourself?”

Jane!”

Jeremiah was about to erupt when Elsa clutched her stomach and groaned in pain. She collapsed

onto the couch with a pale face

Jeremiah’s expression changed instantly. He immediately rushed to her side and urgently asked

Elsa, what’s wrong?”

Elsa clutched her stomach and forced out a strained reply. It hurtsMy stomach hurts so much”

She looked up at me before glancing at the glasses on the table. Realization hit her

Jeremiah was visibly at a loss. Why would your stomach suddenly hurt? Are you”

I got up and feigned concern. What are you standing there for? Take her to the hospital right

away. Only the hospital can figure out what’s wrong.”

My heart sank as I watched Elsa break out in a cold sweat from the pain. It had just been less than

ten minutes since she finished the juice. The way she was suffering hinted at the high drug

dosage

I shuddered to think what might’ve happened to me if I’d been the one to drink it while pregnant

Jeremiah bent down to pick Elsa up and was ready to send her to the hospital

A trace of panic flashed through Elsa’s face. She pushed him away and said in a fluster, No need

for the hospital. It’s just a stomachache, and I’ll be fine after using the restroom.”

The reason why she was so reluctant about having Jeremiah send her to the hospital was simple

She feared tests might discover traces of the drug, and even more so, she was terrified of having Jeremiah find out about my pregnancy
