I rarely cried in front of my parents. Seeing how I was breaking down, they assumed I had suffered
greatly.
Mom gave me gentle pats on the back and uttered in a voice full of concern, “Don’t cry, Jae. Tell
me what happened. I’ll make sure to stand up for you.”
Dad gripped my shoulder. He sounded mad as he asked, “Did Jeremiah pick on you? I’ll teach him
a lesson right now!”
Mom shot him a glare. “Calm down! Listen to Jae explain. Stop acting so impulsively!”
“How can I stay calm when she’s this hurt?”
They were bickering as always, and that was a relief to hear.
I sniffled and told them about the awful things Jeremiah had recently done and my plan to
divorce him. Their expressions darkened after they listened to everything I had to say.
Dad looked like he’d immediately drag Jeremiah over for a reckoning, but Mom managed to hold
him back.
She gripped my hand tightly. “We’ll be here for you since you’ve made up your mind. No one can
harm you, and if Jeremiah hurts you again, tell me I’ll stand up for you.”
Seeing the worry etched on her face, I leaned on her shoulder like I did as a child and nuzzled
against her. “Got it, Mom.”
Knowing that I hadn’t had dinner, Mom went to the kitchen and cooked my favorite dishes.
Something occurred to me during the meal, and I spoke up, “Dad, we need to stop working with.

“They’re profiting too much on this. We can’t just hand our money over to them.”
This wasn’t just about money. In my past life, Cornell Group had used this project against Brown
Group and caused a huge cash flow disruption.
Dad spent months running around to save the company and aged visibly with stress. He barely managed to keep Brown Group afloat, but he fell gravely ill afterward.
I set my cutlery on the table and looked at my parents with a solemn expression. “It isn’t just this project. We shouldn’t have any partnerships with Cornell Group again.”
If I was going to divorce Jeremiah, I needed to sever all ties and prevent any potential troubles
from arising.
My parents loved me dearly, so they agreed without hesitation. Dad slammed the table and

declared, “Sure. I’ll terminate the partnership immediately. Since they’re making my daughter
suffer, we’ll cut ties with Cornell Group for good!”
Looking down at the pile of meat on my plate, I smiled. It felt so good to have a family that
wholeheartedly protected me.
On the other hand, Eric issued a public clarification stating we were just friends. He warned that
any further rumors would result in lawsuits.
With him stepping forward and the powerful legal team from Flint Group backing him up,
internet users quickly quieted down. The rumors were quashed and my reputation was saved.
But I found myself owing Eric more favors.
I stayed home for two days. Instead of idling around, I reviewed all the company’s projects. I knew which trends would bring the highest profits after having lived a few extra years in my past life.
I listed all the key projects and slid the documents across the table to Dad. “Dad, invest more in
these projects. Their future returns will be high.”
After rambling on about my reasoning, I looked up and noticed Dad staring at me intently.
I touched my face, feeling puzzled. I asked, “What’s wrong? Is there something on my face?”
“No, something is missing.”
He chuckled before letting out a sigh. “You used to be so fixated on Jeremiah that you gave up your favorite career in design. Now that you’ve come to your senses, I couldn’t be prouder.”
