Chapter 17
When the plane landed, Adeline dashed off without even looking at Sullivan, who felt like he had been rooted to the floor. He tried to go after her, but his legs refused to budge. It was as if his feet had been nailed to the ground. He could only stand and watch as she disappeared into the crowd.
This continued until Isabel appeared, dressed in white. She waved at him and called out, I’ve come to pick you up, Sully! How was your business trip? Did you bring back a souvenir for me!
Sullivan had a strange feeling when he saw that Isabel, who had been hiding from him for a long time now, had abruptly shown up at the airport. That feeling intensified when she described his trip as a business trip and readily asked for a souvenir from him.
It felt like he hadn’t seen this side of Isabel since that day five years ago when he told her to leave after discovering that she had once framed Madeleine. The entire situation was uncanny, as it a shuttered mirror had miraculously reformed despite never being fixed.
Sullivan didn’t loow what was going on, but he could only think of one thing–he didn’t want to be anyone’s puppet.
As Isabel drew nearer, Sullivan’s legs seemed to slowly regain their freedom. He began approaching her, but his eyes flashed coldly.
He had a feeling he understood why Madeline had abruptly left. Now, it was time for him to test his theory
Isabel’s incessant chatter continued to buzz in his ear, giving him a headache. All of a sudden, he paused and looked at her. His tone was icy as he snapped, “Stuit up. Can’t you stay quiet? You’re so noisy.”
His abrupt reprimand made her stop in her tracks as well. Although she looked hurt, she still expressed her concern for him. “What’s the matter, Sully? Are you exhausted? We should hurry up and head back then.”
Isabel tried to take Sullivan’s hand, but he broke free from her clutches. She tried to start up a conversation with him, but he ignored her.
Outside the airport, Sullivan’s driver was already waiting for him. Once he got into the car, he closed his eyes and continued to treat Isabel as though she were invisible. He didn’t see the aggrieved look on her face. Naturally, he also missed the flash of vicious resentment in her eyes
Isabel thought it was all Madeleine’s fault. Even though Madeleine was dead, she continued to make Isabel’s life difficult.
Ever since Madeleine died, Sullivan had been entirely indifferent toward Isabel. Yet, before that, he would never reject her proximity. She could sense that he had feelings for her then
At the time, she genuinely thought Madeleine was trying to help

thought that Madeleine’s goal was to just ruin things for everyone?
Alas, no matter how resentful Isabel telt, she was filled with a sense of helplessness, too. So what if she detested Madeleine? Madeleine was dead, and Sullivan could no longer forget about her. But even so, Isabel couldn’t do anything about that.
However, Isabel soon found out she was wrong about that.
The car came to a stop outside Sullivan’s residence, but he didn’t head in. Instead, he started walking in a different direction. Taken aback, Isabel quickly disembarked to go after him, asking, “Where are you going, Sully?”
Sullivan didn’t wait for her, nor did he reply, so she had no choice but to hurry after him. Soon, she realized something was amiss. Emerson sidence.

Ever since Madeleine’s death, Sullivan’s relationship with the Emersons had swiftly soured, and he had never been over there since. In that case, why had har abruptly decided to head over there after having just retumed from a business trip?
Although the Emerson residence was situated in the opposite direction of Sullivan’s place, the two houses weren’t that far apart. Soon, Sullivan and Isabel

Adeline had already gotten back. She was currently sitting in the living room with her parents, who were asking her about her life in Cuvella. While she patiently answered all their questions, the doorbell rang
Puzzled, Adeline turned around.
Meanwhile, a maid went to answer the door. The moment she saw who it was, she hesitated, but Sullivan barged right in without caring about anything els
