Chapter 21: The Betrayal Revealed (Scott’s POV)
The battlefield was a sea of chaos, the growls and snarls of wolves blending with the clash of claws and teeth.
In my massive wolf form, tore through the attackers with calculated precision, My strength was faltering, my muscles burning as the curse gnawed at me, but I refused to let it show. Shadowstone was my pack, my responsibility, and no weakness would be tolerated–not even own.
A feral snarl escaped me as I lunged at the alpha of the neighboring pack, pinning the wolf beneath weight. One final strike ended the fight, and the enemy wolves, seeing their leader fall, retreated with their tails between their legs.
I shifted back into my human form, standing amidst the carnage. Blood stained. my whole body, but sharp eyes scanned the retreating wolves until the last of them

disappeared.
“Alpha,” Robert, my Beta, had called, stepping forward. “We‘ ve held them off for now, but there’s something you need to know.”
I glanced at him, my expression unreadable. “What is it?”
“It’s about the curse, Scott. There’s more to it than you‘ ve been told.” Elder Elias started as he walked closer to .
brows furrowed as Elias continued, “The curse wasn’t just an act of vengeance against our bloodline. It was tied to a betrayal–a personal one. It’s why it affects the firstborn alpha in every generation. The pain and loss it caused were… intimate. But there’s also a way to weaken its hold.”
“You mean when I mate with someone? I
will never mate with someone! Ariana is surely waiting for me,” I stubbornly answered.

Elder Elias didn’t answer for so long until my body fell to the ground, weak. Robert helped me up and guided me as we walk back to the pack’s war tent.
“The curse is in effect. Whether you mate with someone else or you mate with Ariana s your decision. But you must decide now, Scott,” Elder Elias said without following

I know that and yet, I can’t mate with Ariana unless I found her. The world is so small. I will do anything to see her and ask for her forguveness and be with her forever.
When we’re back at the Shadowstone
compound, I paced in the war room. My body was exhausted, but my mind was sharper than ever. The attack wasn’t random. Someone had fed the neighboring pack information. There was a spy among

investigation. No one is above suspicion.”
Robert nodded. “I ll start immediately.”
Hours passed as I poured over reports and intel. The investigation result came sooner than I expected.
“Alpha,” Robert said, his voice grim as he entered the room. “We‘ ve found the spy.”
Scott‘ s jaw tightened. “Who is it?”
Robert pulled Winona in front of
“Winona.” I’d suspected her involvement in the severance of my bond with Ariana, but to betray the pack?
“Winona,” I began, voice low and dangerous. “Explain yourself.”
She smirked, the gesture infuriating.
“Explain what, Scott? That I did what had to be done to ensure this pack‘ s survival? To ensure your survival?”
“By betraying us to the neighboring

the side.
“They would have attacked eventually,” she countered. “I simply gave them
enough to keep them at bay. Or so I thought.”
My eyes darkened. “And what about Ariana? What did you do to her?”
Winona s smirk faltered for a moment before returning. “I severed the bond for your sake, Scott. You were growing weaker because of her. She couldn’t protect you, couldn’t protect herself. I made the right choice.”
Rage surged through me even though I have a hint that it was her. efore I could stop myself, I lunged forward, my hand wrapping around her throat.
“You took my mate from me. You
destroyed the bond that was meant to
strengthen both of us. And you dare to call it the right choice?”

Winona gasped for air, her defiance giving way to fear as my grip tightened.
“Alpha,” Robert interjected, stepping forward cautiously. “She’s not worth it.”
I convinced myself Robert was right and let go of Winona’s neck. She crumpled to the ground, coughing and gasping.
“Confine her,” I ordered, my voice trembling with restrained anger. “She doesn‘ t leave until I say so.”
The pieces were falling into place. Winona s betrayal, and the curse.
I prepared to leave and to find Ariana. She has to know that it wasn’t me who willingly
severed our bond. It was Winona.
Before I could go in my car, my warrior wolf was running towards me.
“Alpha,” the warrior said, his voice tight with urgency. “Winona… she escaped.“
