Chapter 69
On stage, the host was steadily following the event’s schedule, presenting a series of token ansards to the notable guests in attendance, including Daphne.
After accepting her award, Daphne seized the brief intermission before the charity auction began to step outside for some air,
The charity event had a traditional segment where prominent attendees voluntarily contributed personal treasures to be auctioned, Guests could bid freely, with the proceeds going to support impoverished regions. The funds were typically used to improve local education.
As the auction drew near, Daphne made a quick trip to the restroom On her way back, she suddenly felt a shadow looming over her.
Looking up, she saw Wilson.
Standing at six feet three inches tall, Wilson carried an imposing presence–a natural byproduct of years spent in the cutthroat corporate world. Today, he wore a sharp black suit paired with gold–rimmed glasses. He exuded a deceptive sophistication what could only be described as the air of a polished scoundrel.
If none of their sordid history had happened, Wilson’s looks, demeanor, and status would have made him a perfect match for Daphne. This was why, when their relationship and marriage were first announced, Daphne’s fans had given their wholehearted support and blessings.
But now, just the sight of his face made Daphne feel physically sick
Seeing the venomous malice in his eyes, she didn’t need to guess that he was here to confront her over Yvonne again.
Daphine glanced around. The staff who were previously in the area had all been dismissed clearly, it was Wilson’s handiwork.
This time, Daphne didn’t back down. Instead, she addressed him directly, her tone sharp, “This is a high–profile fashion event. What are you planning to do–hit me again?”
“Hit you? When have I ever hit you?” Wilson sneered, still convinced that Daphne’s injury in the Garrys parking lot had been staged.
“Back then in the parking lot, you confidently told me you had borrowed a Garrya haute couture gown for Yvonne. And now? It turns out you were lying all along ”
Willson’s words were laced with chilling hostly. For a moment, Daphne felt that if this weren’t a society governed by laws, Wilson might actually tear her apart with his own
hands.
“Wilson, my conscience is clear. Every couture loan has a documented record. If you don’t believe me, you can go directly to Garry’s CEO to verify it. Have you ever considered the possibility that Yvonne deliberately wore a knockoff to create drama and frame me?”
Wilson took a step closer and grabbed Daphne’s chin, forcing her to look up at him
His gaze was cold and predatory, like a snake in the rain. “Do you think Yvonne would stoop as low as you? Clinging to me by sneaking into my bed when I was drunk, faking a pregnancy to stop me from divorcing you–Daphne, only you’d resort to such disgusting tactics.”
Wilson was referring to incidents from before ber rebirth.
Indeed, she had done things others might consider shameful, but that didn’t mean she deserved this kind of humiliation
“Wilson, no matter what desperate measures I took to save our marriage, they were all within the bounds of legality. You, on the other hand, are a cheating scumbag. What right do you have to ridicule me? At least I tried. I gave my all for that relationship
“Now, take your filthyhands off me. You disgust me.
Daphne slapped his hand away forcefully. The ring on her finger had a sharp edge that accidentally grazed Wilson’s hand, leaving a small cut.
Without noticing the injury, Dupline turned and walked away without hesitation.
“You’ll pay for this,” Wilson said coldly to her retreating figure, lightly touching his wound.
Daphne didn’t respond. Lifting her gown, she strode off with confidence
In her mind, she thought, “Let him come at me with whatever he’s got. I’ve long since stopped hoping for anything from this man. Bring it on.”
By the time Daplane returned to her seat, the charity auction had just begun.
She had no intention of contributing a personal items for the auction. As always, she preferred direct donations, so she felt relatively uninterested in the proceedings.
Just as she was feeling bored, she suddenly heard the host mention her name.
Surprised, she looked up. She hadn’t provided anything for the auction.
The host’s steady voice filled the room as they introduced the next item, “Ms. Daphine Yeager has generously contributed a vintage emerald pendant for the action. Let the bidding begin!
The pendant appeared on the large screen, magnified for the audience’s view.
Daphine froze
It was the pendant her grandmother gifted her!
