Chapter 3
Sebastian was taken aback by Daphne’s words twice in just a minute.
“Do you have any idea what you’re saying, Ms. Yeager?”
He stared at Daphne in confusion as if the woman in front of him was a monster who came from nowhere instead of the gorgeous actress loved by everyone.
Daphne knew this might come off a bit out of the blue for him. After all, he was the eldest son of the Turner family and his grandfather, Steven’s, favorite grandson. He could easily date any woman if he wanted to, so why did he have to marry a woman who had just gotten a divorce like her?
But Sebastian was the only person on an equal footing with Wilson.
She had to rely on Sebastian’s influence to stand against Wilson. Besides, she wanted to ensure that Wilson had no room to regret his decisions.
She had starred in various films and TV shows, and she hated the plot where a person turned over a new leaf just to win someone back the most.
On a more important note, she had already slept with Sebastian in her perspective. Thus, she had to be responsible for her actions.
“Let’s just cut it short. Are you going to marry me or not? I’ll look for someone else if you don’t want to.”
Daphne didn’t have much patience. She reached out her hand to take the pair of rings back. Just as her fingers touched the jewelry box, Sebastian gripped her wrist.
His probing eyes glimmered darkly. “Don’t you have to tell me why you’re choosing me?” Sebastian asked.
His gaze was cold despite how he was actually grinning. He would suspect that Daphne was plotting against him if she didn’t have a suitable reason.
Daphne replied truthfully, “I can’t keep these assets without your help, Sebastian. Wilson will take them all back gradually.”
She knew exactly where she stood. She wasn’t a business-savvy person like Wilson. Instead, she was a veteran in the entertainment industry. She was the total package—she was attractive and in great shape, had amazing acting skills, and was good at socializing too. She simply lacked the business acumen.
The few times she ventured into business were all unsuccessful.
The shops she opened were all closed, and she even incurred losses for everything she had invested.
There was also once when she made the transition to filming a movie. She suffered a great loss from it to the extent that her huge fanbase couldn’t help her turn things around.
Hence, this time, Daphne had to find someone to keep the money safe for her.
“You know how scheming Wilson is, right? He’s an expert in the industry too. You didn’t get anything out of him after years of competing with him, so how could I ever? But it’d be different if we got married. I can help you beat him,” Daphne remarked as she stared at Sebastian with a serious look.
“Wilson is a smart one. He turned half of his assets into non-current assets and cash before giving them to me. On top of that, he only gave me 12.5% of his shares.”
“12.5%?”
“Yes, and he’s left with 53% of the shares, which means he still has absolute control over his company.”
Giving Daphne half of his assets really set Wilson back a lot. But considering Farrell Group’s current influence in the industry and their business scope, he would only have to spend some time to earn the amount back.
Daphne knew it all too well that what she received meant nothing to Wilson.
“Wilson is at his lowest point now. This is the best time to take action.” Daphne dangled an attractive bait once again.
Sebastian was moved. “Let me think about it.”
She was perplexed after seeing his attitude. When she fell into Wilson’s trap in her previous life, Sebastian defended her resolutely. She thought she might be somewhat special to him.
However, she could tell that there was no difference between her and another woman, judging by his reaction just now.
Could it be that her guess was wrong?
Before she could think about it thoroughly, she heard a familiar voice she hated.
“Oh my, Ms. Yeager! So, the important meeting you mentioned earlier is a meeting with Mr. Turner?” Yvonne exclaimed, making Wilson look in their direction.
Wilson’s expression darkened when he saw how Daphne and Sebastian were together.
Daphne was speechless. She couldn’t believe she could bump into these two in a huge city like Serrington.
It was like fate always had a funny way of bringing enemies together.
Sebastian didn’t interrupt them. He leaned back in his chair, watching the drama unfold with a smirk on his face.
It was very difficult to reserve a table in this cruise ship restaurant. Daphne had previously mentioned it multiple times to Wilson, asking him to bring her here. Every time, Wilson would tell her that he was busy and didn’t have time to do so. But now, he had the time to bring Yvonne here.
Daphne tried to brush off the slight discomfort in her heart. Ignoring Wilson and Yvonne, she pretended like she was discussing business with Sebastian. “I’ll think about the endorsement, Mr. Turner. You can discuss the details with my manager.”
The endorsement?
Sebastian raised an eyebrow, chuckling. “I’ll consider your ‘requirements’ too, Ms. Yeager.”
Then, Wilson asked untimely, “You’re going to endorse for Turner Group?”
He sounded as if he was interrogating her, which was utterly unpleasant for Daphne. “Yes, I am. Do you have any problem with it?”
The moment Daphne said “yes”, Wilson’s presence suddenly grew cold.
Even Yvonne noticed that something wasn’t right.
She then bit her lip and whimpered, “Ms. Yeager, you made such a huge fuss about me and Mr. Farrell back then, and we even thought we owed you for it. But you and Mr. Turner are also…”
She deliberately paused without finishing her sentence to let Wilson figure the rest out.
As expected, Wilson’s expression clouded over. “Very well, then.”
Wilson always kept a stoic expression. They had been together for many years, and Daphne had never seen him lose control of his emotions or rage in public. Concealing his emotions was a lesson he learned after becoming someone in a higher position.
Thus, no one but Daphne knew that Wilson was clearly mad.
Endorsing for Turner Group was just a mere excuse Daphne had come up with to cover her real intention. As a result, Wilson prominently announced Yvonne as the global ambassador of a high-end luxury brand under Farrell Group, Story, for their ready-to-wear collection.
Story’s ready-to-wear collection had a chic, mature womanly charm—one that a young lady like Yvonne couldn’t quite pull off. Moreover, with her current status in the entertainment industry, there was no way she could secure such a high-profile endorsement.
The news went viral on the internet.
The fans knew what an endorsement like this could mean.
Yvonne’s fans were beaming. After all, Yvonne had been bashed as a “homewrecker” for so long by Daphne’s fans. They could finally strike back this time.
“The drama queen still refuses to let go of Mr. Farrell even when he clearly doesn’t love her anymore. Didn’t you guys notice that they haven’t been seen together for almost a year? They probably got a divorce without announcing it publicly.”
“It’s so funny that the drama queen has been trying to get Story’s endorsement forever, but Story literally announced Yvonne as their global ambassador. Yvonne’s career is about to soar up high!”
“Now you know who Mr. Farrell cares about most. Just how romantic of him to confess his love like that!”
Daphne found the trending comments amusing. On the other hand, her manager, Ava Cole, was so furious that she started exploding in a fit of rage.
“Wilson is such a bastard. Back then, you desperately needed a substantial endorsement to prove your commercial value, especially with all the comments about falling out of favor in the fashion industry. We begged him for Story’s endorsement, but he refused outright.
“He said something like, ‘Your image doesn’t match Story’s vibe, and the consumers will surely get upset if you become the brand ambassador.’ He even went on about how he has to keep personal and professional matters separate. That’s bullshit!
“All his principles are tossed out the window when it comes to Yvonne.”
