Chapter 13
In Daphne’s fan forum, her loyal supporters stood firm, insisting they would wait for her response.
Fence–sitters called it a “scandal collapse“, renouncing their support while stirring up drama.
Meanwhile, the fans of her rivals swooped in to kick her while she was down, gleefully mocking
the situation.
Among them, Yvonne’s fans were the most aggressive.
They seemed organized, flooding the comment section of every brand Daphne endorsed,
demanding her termination as a spokesperson. They even pressured official media outlets to blacklist Daphne as a disgraced celebrity.
Ava was frantic. “Daph, have you seen the trending topic? They’re accusing you of cheating during
your marriage! What’s going on with you and Mr. Turner?”
The question irritated Daphne. She had been the one betrayed and hurt, yet Wilson managed to
turn the tables and frame her. How was that fair?
Hearing no response on the other end of the line, Ava grew anxious. “Daph, are you listening?”
Daphne replied calmly, “Yes, I’ve seen it. It’s all lies fabricated by Wilson and Yvonne to smear me.
Ava’s temper flared at that. Forgetting any concern about Wilson’s power, she erupted. “Those two” are absolutely vile! After everything they’ve done to you, they still won’t stop!”
Daphne, however, remained composed. “Don’t worry. This is just the beginning. The real storm is yet to come.”
Wilson’s tactics had only scratched the surface–barely 10% of what he was capable of. Compared to the lengths he went in her previous life, like pushing her onto the same bed as Sebastian, this smear campaign was nothing more than a drizzle.
If she couldn’t handle this, how could she face what was yet to come?
Reassured by Daphne’s steady mindset, Ava relaxed slightly. “What’s your plan now?”
“Simple. An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth.”
Daphne’s anger simmered beneath the surface, and she had no intention of enduring it quietly.
If Wilson dared to attack her so ruthlessly, swallowing her pride would only mean squandering the second chance life had given her!
However, Ava’s words reminded Daphne of something important. With the scandal gaining so much traction online, Sebastian was likely facing as much unwanted attention as she was.
Daphne quickly called him to offer an apology upon realizing this.
When Sebastian answered, his voice was as languid as ever, laced with casual indifference. Missing me already, Ms. Yeager?”
“How relaxed. He can actually sleep through all this?” Daphne thought to herself
“Stop joking. Have you seen the news?” she asked.
A low chuckle came from the other end. I’ve seen t. Isn’t it just saying we’re an item? What’s the big deal?”
“You’re unbelievable…” Daphne muttered.
She was momentarily at a loss for words. His nonchalant reaction made her concern feel overly dramatic and unnecessary.
“You’re the most cherished grandson of the Turner family. Everything you do reflects on your family’s reputation and business. With a scandal like this, aren’t you even a little upset with me?”
“Was it you who leaked it? Sebastian countered with a question instead of answering.
Daphne froze for a couple of seconds before responding, “Of course not! I’d never stoop so low.
“Then why would I blame you?” His laugh came through more clearly, carrying a low, seductive undertone.
Daphne was momentarily stumped.
He was right. If it wasn’t her fault, why was she falling into a cycle of self–blame?
“Got it. Don’t worry. I’ll handle this and make sure you’re not affected too much,” she reassured him, quickly dropping her unnecessary guilt.
Sebastian seemed indifferent, and he shifted the focus to something else entirely. “Is that a promise to your future business partner or future husband?”
“Both,” Daphne replied without hesitation
Her response came so quickly that she didn’t even notice the subtle shift in how Sebastian
referred to himself as her “future husband“.
After ending the call, Daphne adjusted her phone to block all unknown numbers. Then, she unblocked Wilson’s number and dialed it.
Wilson didn’t answer at first, but she kept calling relentlessly. He was clearly trying to intimidate her, and she would remain at a disadvantage if she backed down now. By the tenth call, Wilson finally picked up.
“Where are you right now?” Daphne got straight to the point.
Wilson’s voice was cold and detached. “What do you want?”
His tone made her frown. Suppressing her irritation, Daphne kept her voice steady. “I need to talk
to you
She could hear the sound of people chatting and drinking in the background. Wilson didn’t answer
her directly “If it’s important, say it over the phone.”
“No, it has to be face–to–face,” Daphne insisted.
His impatience was evident in his tone. “Daphne, my patience has limits.”
A playful female voice interrupted on his end. “Will who are you talking to?”
“No one. Let’s keep playing.” Wilson replied before hanging up
Daphne took a deep breath. That nauseatingly sweet voice was unmistakably Yvonne’s. She knew
all the exclusive clubs Wilson liked to frequent. If he wouldn’t tell her, she’d find him herself
Luck was on her side as she located him almost immediately.
The receptionist recognized Daphne and knew about her connection to Wilson, so she didn’t dare
stop her. She even told her the room number where Wilson was.
Daphne strode toward the private room in her heels, their sharp clicks echoing in the hallway
She hadn’t even reached the door when the lively sounds of laughter and chatter spilled out into
the corridor.
“Will, do you think Daphne will actually go through with the divorce? She wasn’t willing to let go
before. Could this be another one of her games?”
“I’ve always tho
thought Daphne was beneath you. She’s just a small–town girl with no class. She’s
nothing compared to Yvonne, who’s well–educated, studied abroad, and comes from a good family.
She’s obedient and sweet to boot. She’s leagues ahead of Daphne.”
“Hey, Mr. Gray, you’re forgetting the most important thing. All those qualities are external. The
key is that Mr. Farrell loves Yvonne. Love conquers all.”
Each mocking comment from inside the room felt like a dagger aimed at Daphne, who stood
silently outside the door.
When she first married Wilson, a few rich heirs from his circle had also made snide remarks about
her. But Wilson had been furious back then.
He didn’t care about anyone’s feelings, flipped the table on the spot, and warned everyone never to
say a single bad word about Daphne in front of him again.
Daphne had been deeply moved that day, thinking she had the best husband in the world.
But times had changed. Now, those same opportunistic heirs knew that Daphne was no longer
favored. They felt free to mock and belittle her in front of Wilso
This time, Wilson didn’t react. He remained silent, offering no defense for her.
Instead, the person who despised Daphne the most–Yvonne–put on a show of false kindness and feigned concern.
“Mr. Coleman, Mr. Gray, you shouldn’t speak about Daphne like that. You make it sound like she’s some clingy, desperate woman. In truth, she just loves Will so much that she can’t bear to let go. Loving someone, even to the point of humbling yourself for them, isn’t a crime, is it?”
“Yvonne, you’re too kind–hearted,” one of the men replied. “Daphne’s refusal to let go is clearly an attempt to keep you and Wilson from being together openly. She’s deliberately wasting both your time. That kind of behavior is pure malice.”
