Chapter 124
The production team had already communicated with the haunted house operators, so the haunted house was closed to the public today.
Since the staff needed time to adjust the night shooting equipment for each haunted room, the actors waited in the holding room for a moment. However, that little moment was filled with palpable tension.
Samuel initially thought that being among so many people would keep his fears at bay, but as he arrived and saw the terrifying and dim decor, along with the eerie music echoing from inside, his legs began to tremble uncontrollably.
Samuel thought, “This is even scarier than I imagined. I shouldn’t have chosen this haunted house just to oppose Gregory. I’m really digging my own grave. If I end up scared out of my wits on my birthday, that would be so embarrassing.
At that moment, a provocative voice rang out. “Oh my gosh, the birthday star isn’t afraid, is he? How pathetic! If you’re scared, you should tell the production team quickly. It would be quite humiliating if you wet yourself inside.” Gregory lounged on the couch, legs crossed, looking disdainfully at Samuel.
Hearing Gregory’s mockery, Samuel’s face darkened instantly, thinking, ‘Very well, even if I’m scared, I must not show it in front of him. I’d rather be dead than being humiliated.’
Samuel defiantly crossed his legs and shot a fierce glare back at Gregory. “Am I scared? I usually love watching horror movies. Going to a haunted house feels like going home to me. But you! Don’t end up getting lost in there. I’m not coming to save you.”
Gregory scoffed, “Do I need you to save me? How ridiculous! I’ve never encountered anything that could scare me at this age. During the haunted house challenges, I’ll definitely be the MVP.”
Samuel sneered, “Oh really? I wasn’t even interested in being MVP. But you make me feel like I have to compete for it now.”
“Dream on!” Samuel rolled his eyes.
The two started bickering again, neither backing down. Eleanor couldn’t help but rub her slightly swollen temples, thinking, ‘If I remember correctly, at first, they both wrote down haunted houses as the places they least wanted to go. Now they are both acting fearless?‘
Gloria stood up gracefully and walked over to Samuel, speaking softly. “Samuel, I’m a bit scared. Can I stay with you?” This time, she wasn’t just looking to ride on his popularity. She genuinely felt a bit frightened.
Samuel couldn’t refuse. “Sure, I’ll protect you,” he said this with righteous fervor and an upbeat tone. Then he glanced at the silent Eleanor, biting his lip, thinking, ‘Eleanor is also a girl. She should be scared, too. Should I protect her as well?
‘But she bullied Gloria. I came here to help Gloria get even.
‘However, she is still my sister, and if Andrew finds out I didn’t care about Eleanor, he will definitely lecture me again.
‘I have to protect her since I’m her brother. I’ll just forgive her for a moment and protect her. She better not get so emotional that she cries! With that thought, Samuel straightened his head, feeling a halo of benevolence radiating from him. Just as Samuel was about to speak, another voice interrupted him.
Gregory rubbed his hands together and approached Eleanor, smiling affably, “Eleanor, I’ll protect you. I’m brave. This haunted house adventure is child’s play for me.”
Eleanor clearly seemed skeptical, as, in her opinion, Gregory was as reliable as a pig. However, seeing Gregory full of confidence, she reluctantly believed him a bit. “Alright then, you’ll be in charge of finding clues, and I’ll solve the puzzles. We should get through this quickly.”
Gregory was confident. “No problem, leave it to me.”
