Chapter 72
tension brewing beneath it.
Though Samuel and Leonardo’s friendship appeared unchanged on the surface, there was an unmistakable tension
Suddenly, I spoke up, “My phone just notified me that one and a half hours have pasarıl. 1only have go minutes left to try on the clothes,‘
My words snapped Leonardo back to reality. The next moment, he pulled out his phone and transferred 3,000 dollars to me. “I’m paying for your time this moming. Is that enough?
“I need to leave by 10:00 am, so 1,000 dollars is more than enough,” I replied.
“It’s fine. You don’t need to give me any change.”
Only then did he size me up. “This one looks good. Keep going, Jules.”
I noticed Samuel’s expression darken with each word Leonardo spoke.
Right then, the sales assistant picked out two more dresses, and Leonardo pointed to one, she gently brushed the fabric against my hand and said, “Ms. Sutton, please try this one. The tag is at the back”
“okay.” I responded.
With that, I returned to the fitting room. Outside, I could hear the sales assistant sweeping up the broken glass and the voices of Samuel and Leonardo “Since you care so much about her, why not just treat her well and tum her into a well–behaved woman?” one of them sald
The other shot back immediately, “Do you think she deserves that?”
Alas, my sharp bearing caught every word.
After changing into the dress, I stepped out of the fitting room. By then, the sales assistant had already tidied up the place. The second she saw me, her eyes widened in awe.
The dress Leonardo had chosen was a red one. I had never tried on a red dress before, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. After all, the mirror had been shattered. Nonetheless, the sales assistant helped me step out. Samuel and Leonardo tumed to look at me, stunned.
Moments later, I caught my reflection in another mirror. My naturally wavy hair cascaded down my shoulders, pairing perfectly with the red, waist–cinching dress. The sales assistant didn’t hold back her praise. “Oh my, Ms. Sutton! Your skin is so fair, and your features are the most beautiful I’ve ever seen. The red dress looks amazing on you. You’re absolutely stunning! Even as another woman, it’s hard not to admire you!
Samuel, sitting on the couch with his legs crossed, brought the cup of coffee to his lips. But before he could take a sip, a scott escaped him as the sales assistant’s words registered in his mind
“Leonardo, who exactly are you buying this dress tor? Yvie or Juliet?” he asked in a mocking tone. “Don luving Juliet try one on What, are you into her now? Go ahead, take her for a spin. That way, you don’t need to speak around behind my back.”
you know Yvie hates red dresses? And yet here you are,
As his remark sank in, my expression turned cold. I had expected to see the two of them exchanging sharp words over Yvette when I stepped out.
Instead, Leonardo took a deep breath and set his cup down. “I didn’t know Yvie doesn’t
If that’s the case, take this off and try another one, Juliei,”

Almost immediately, the sales assistant pulled out two more dresses. This time, Leonardo pointed to the pinkcone and said, “Try this one.”
At his command, the sales assistant hurriedly ushered me back into the fitting room
After trying more than a dozen outfits, Leonardo finally swiped his card and paid for two of the dresses.
1, of course, knew that the birthday gift he was giving Yvette wouldn’t be limited to a few thousand dollars worth of clothing. I was certain there were more expensive iteius accompanying these dresses, just as Sammel wouldn’t only give her a bag.
As we were about to leave, Samuel stopped me. Get in my car. I’ll give you a ride back to the campus,”
Much to his astonishment, I grabbed Leonardo’s sleeve and Insisted, “Leo, since you brought me here, you’re responsible for taking me back”
Leonardo was caught off guard by my demand. I watched Samuel’s expression tum as dark as it possibly could. It was as though he wanted nothing more than to
