Chapter 45
The car door then closed, shutting out all the noise from outside. I glanced through the window. Even though I couldn’t clearly see Yvette’s expression, I could sense her disheartened state.
Yvette hadn’t seen my face because my legs were covered, concealing the torn dress. However,
she had clearly noticed my deliberately outstretched hand.
I then saw Samuel and Leonardo rush out of the club after her.
It was obvious that they had noticed something was off with Yvette, and they seemed to be quietly.
asking her what had happened. The driver started the car, and I couldn’t make out their
conversation
At that moment, Gideon handed me a water bottle thanked him and took it, surprised to find the
bottle was warm. It was unopened.
I didn’t drink it but held it in my hands instead. Even though I knew Gideon wouldn’t harm me, I had an experience with drinking something unsafe in my past life, which made me overly
cautious
Gideon glanced at me but said nothing. He answered his ringing phone and began listening to what sounded like a subordinate’s report.
I leaned back against the seat, and as sleepiness crept in, I dozed off.

Half–asleep, I noticed the surrounding atmosphere becoming extremely quiet. I felt something gently brush against my forehead–or maybe it didn’t. It was as if a warm breath lingered near for a long moment.
Then, I faintly heard the driver speaking in a low voice.
“Mr. Jackman, we’ve been waiting at the university gate for half an hour. Should we wake Ms. Sutton? It looks like the gate is closed.”
Hearing the driver’s voice, I slowly opened my eyes
My neck ached slightly. As I came to my senses, I realized I had fallen asleep leaning against Gideon’s shoulder. Startled, I quickly sat upright.
It wasn’t because of anything improper but out of fear. I didn’t want to end up like those ladies who had tried to get close to Gideon, only to be completely cut off and never see him again.
If that happened, all my efforts to approach him over the past few weeks would have been wasted.
“I didn’t expect to fall asleep in your car, Mr. Jackman,” I said, trying to sound casual.
Gideon nodded. “Neither did I.”

His response made me pause, but it also eased some of my tension. It even felt like we had grown a little closer today.
However, I noticed the tightly shut university gate and felt a headache coming on. The gate
always closed at 10:30 pm sharp, and it would be difficult for me to get in now.
“Do you have any other place to go besides the university?” he asked.
1 shook my head “No, I don’t.”
“If you don’t mind, I can drop you off at a hotel entrance.”
Gideon’s words were carefully chosen. He said he’d drop me off at a hotel, not accompany me inside.
He must have noticed my hesitation about drinking the water earlier and respected my guarded attitude. The consideration was thoughtful to the extreme.
He was a good man, but I wouldn’t stop my plans to use him just because of that.
“Alright, thank you for the trouble.”
“It’s no trouble.” Gideon gave the driver an address, which I recognized as belonging to a hotel owned by the Jackman family.
When the car arrived at the hotel entrance, a middle–aged man and a female staff member were already waiting by the door.
“The room is ready. You just need to head upstairs, Gideon said.
I hesitated briefly before speaking, “I’ll repay you for tonight’s hotel cost when I get my next month’s salary.”
I didn’t say I wouldn’t stay or ask who would pay for the room.
Since Gideon brought me here, arranged the room, and knew I couldn’t even afford a 500–dollar dry -cleaning fee, it was clear he wouldn’t let me pay tonight.
He nodded. “Alright.”
I removed his jacket from my lap as I prepared to get out of the car, but then I looked back at him.” Mr. Jackman, should I have the hotel handle the dry cleaning for your jacket, or…”
“No need. Just leave it,” he replied.
