Chapter 42
“You say you like me, but you can’t even recognize my scent?” Samuel sneered
All I could think was how unfortunate it was that my slap didn’t land. Earlier, I only mentioned. Samuel to Leonardo because I saw Samuel nearby.
Many people had feelings for Samuel, but he never paid them any mind. The only person he cared
about was Yvette.
In my previous life, the more openly someone expressed their feelings for Samuel, the more
disdainful he’d get toward them.
I had once told him I liked him. His response? He said that my feelings were cheap. Then, he disappeared for several days without a word.
That was why I deliberately said it this time–it was the same tactic as before. But Samuel’s reaction this time was different from what I remembered.
He raised an eyebrow. “Did you come out looking for me?”
“Samuel, where’s the guide dog you wanted to give me?” I asked.
Samuel wrapped an arm around my shoulders. “At my house. Once this matter is dealt with, I’ll take you home.”
As he spoke, his gaze shifted past me, focusing on someone behind me. I heard the sound of retreating footsteps.
It seemed Leonardo had left.
The moment his footsteps faded, Samuel’s expression darkened. He then dragged me into the elevator, pressing the close button.
“Have you been meeting Leonardo often at the university?”
I frowned, confused by this sudden line of questioning. What on earth was this about now?
1
“Occasionally,” I replied.
“Occasionally? You’ve only been at the university for less than ten days, and you’ve met with him occasionally? Samuel scoffed as he grabbed my face.
“Did you try to seduce him? With his personality, he wouldn’t spare a glance at any woman besides Yvette,”
His eyes burned with anger, as if they could pierce right through me.
The elevator doors quickly closed, but since Samuel hadn’t pressed any other floor, it reopened on
the same level. Standing outside was Yvette, and her eyes were wide with surprise. Behind her
was Leonardo, who had apparently returned.
“What are you two doing in the elevator?” Yvette’s voice trembled with urgency.
“Samuel, weren’t you going to handle the issue with the police? Did you take care of it? Your family can’t find out about this!” She sounded like she was on the verge of tears.
This time, I could tell Yvette wasn’t pretending.
She genuinely seemed terrified–worried that if Gideon found out, he’d see her, the well–behaved, perfect young woman, as someone who hung out at clubs with Samuel and got involved in a scandalous fight.
It would tarnish her image in Gideon’s eyes.
In my past life, I often heard Yvette fretting
over what kind of women Gideon might like. She ever once drunkenly called Samuel, crying and asking if Gideon might prefer men and not women at all
Samuel and I were in a mall at the time. Samuel left me–a blind woman–on my own while he reassured her over the phone in a gentle voice, promising her that Gideon was not gay.

That day, I was even nearly pushed off the escalator
My thoughts snapped back to the present.
Samuel was still comforting Yvette, saying, “Don’t worry. It’ll only take a few words to settle this.”
When the elevator reached the ground floor, Samuel and Yvette stepped out first. Leonardo followed them, glancing at me as he held the elevator doors open.
“You can come out now,” he said.
I walked out without thanking him. I ignored Leonardo’s fake chivalry, though I noticed his eyebrow twitch slightly in annoyance.
Just then, a manager came running up.
“Mr. Samuel, I just received a call. Mr. Gideon is nearby and will arrive in about 20 minutes!”
I saw
Samuel’s expression shift instantly.
Even Leonardo didn’t look as composed as he had earlier when dealing with me. But the most interesting person was
Yvette.
Her expression was a mix of excitement and nervousness, with a hint of barely contained eagerness at the thought of seeing Gideon.
