Chapter 41
Everyone’s eyes fell on me. It was as if they were waiting to see what would happen to someone who had angered Leonardo.
Even Samuel seemed to be enjoying the show, raising an eyebrow as he looked at Leonardo. He had no intention of stepping in to help me. His expression practically encouraged the scene.
Nevertheless, I stood still.
Leonardo was far more composed than Samuel. He wouldn’t lose his temper in front of a crowd. Instead, he’d quietly use underhanded methods.
Just then, there was a knock on the door.
The manager rushed in, visibly sweating. “Mr. Jackman, the police are outside. Someone called them about an altercation and a fight!”
Samuel, who had been watching with an amused expression, stiffened slightly at the words
“Who called the police?”
The manager quickly tried to show his loyalty. “The two security guards who got beaten definitely wouldn’t dare. They’ve already been sent off with money for their treatment. It must’ve been
someone else who didn’t know better!”
I knew what the manager meant. Everyone at the club was aware of who Samuel was. He was
Gideon Jackman’s nephew. No one here would dare call the police.
That meant I was the one who called.
Yvette looked even more anxious than Samuel.
She stood up quickly. “Samuel, how many times have I told you not to resort to violence so casually? What are we going to do now that the police are here? And what will happen if your
uncle finds out?”
Her eyes turned red as she bit her lip, looking terrified. It was so pitiful and so endearing. Even I felt a pang of sympathy toward her, so Samuel and Leonardo would only feel more protective of her.
“Don’t worry, I’ll handle it. I won’t let my family find out,” Samuel said softly while comforting
Yvette.
I quietly stepped back, observing the scene.
It was fascinating. Samuel thought Yvette mentioned Gideon out of concern that his family might hear about the incident, but the truth was she cared more about Gideon’s opinion.

Without even glancing at me, Samuel strode out to deal with the situation. That gave me the
chance to follow him, carefully feeling my way along the corridor.
Since I was in this kind of place, pretending to be blind was still necessary. I simply closed my eyes and walked forward.
But I didn’t want to relive the suffocating darkness from my past life. It wasn’t long before I bumped into what felt like a wall of muscle.
Startled, I opened my eyes. “Samuel?”
“It’s me, Leonardo,
I quickly pulled my hand back. Of course, I knew it was Leonardo–1 could see him. Calling him. Samuel was just a way to throw off his suspicions
“You’re the one who called the police,” he stated as if it were an undeniable fact.
He leaned down, bringing his lips close to my ear. “You’re clever, but I’d suggest you put away your hostility toward Yvie. Don’t provoke her. If you want to play your little games with Samuel, that’s your business. But if you harm Yvie, I’ll make you regret ever being born.”
I suddenly remembered how much they cared about Yvette and how deeply they sympathized with the unfair treatment she faced growing up.
To them, Yvette was like a delicate doll. She was someone they needed to protect at all costs. The whole world adored Yvette. In their eyes, she was still pitiable, fragile, and untouchable.
The rest of us–including me–were nothing more than threats. We were targets of their retaliation.
This world truly was unfair.
I said softly, “Leo, do you always talk this much? If you care so much about Yvette, why don’t you just stay by her side like a loyal dog? Stop following me. I don’t have a bone to give you.”
“You-”
“Move. I need to find Samuel.”
Leonardo let out a cold laugh. His eyes, which were filled with anger moments ago, now held a trace of pity. “Do you have a crush on Samuel?”
“Yes, I do,” I replied.
Leonardo studied me for a moment longer with an inscrutable gaze. But in the end, he stepped aside to let me pass.
I felt my way along the wall as I headed toward the elevator. Meanwhile, Samuel stood at the elevator, staring blankly at me.
I simply walked past him, reaching out to feel for the elevator button. Suddenly, he grabbed my hand and guided my fingers to the button.
Startled, I gasped and instinctively raised my hand to slap him, but he caught it effortlessly.
