Chapter 38
Kevin stopped the car, but Gideon didn’t. I vaguely saw that there
car, though I couldn’t make out who it was.
was a woman sitting in Gideon’s
Since Gideon didn’t stop, Kevin simply drove me out of the villa. After a while, Kevin received a
phone call, and then he transferred me two thousand dollars.
“Mr. Jackman said Mrs. Foster Senior is in great spirits today and really enjoyed chatting with
you, so we’re giving you an advance on your salary. He also mentioned your lute–it looks beautiful
and seems to be a rare and valuable piece.”
“Thank you!”
“No problem. Honestly, Jules, your personality is so calm–something you don’t often see in young women these days. Mrs. Foster Senior seems to really like you!”
“Kevin, could you drop me off at the subway station up ahead? I need to go somewhere and won’t be heading home just yet.”
Kevin didn’t ask further and dropped me off at the station.
I got out, thanked him, and walked into the subway station. After finding a quiet corner, I took out my phone and opened the chat with Gideon. I transferred him 200 dollars with the note-“Dry cleaning fee.”
The last time we were at the hospital, I had soaked his custom–made shirt after scalding myself with hot water.
Not long after, Gideon replied, “Okay.”
I responded, “There’s still another 200 dollars. I’ll transfer it to you next month. Thank you for stepping in to help me last time.”
Gideon’s text came again, “No need to thank me.
I hesitated for a moment before typing, “Mr. Jackman, I don’t have Mr. Yates number. I’ll be visiting the tennis club tomorrow. Could you kindly let him know?”
But after sending this, Gideon didn’t reply anymore
Although we had exchanged only a few words recently, I felt that Gideon was someone who followed through. Even if he was displeased, he would at least respond with a simple, “Okay.”
It reflected an inherent sense of self–restraint and good manners. Yet today, he didn’t reply.
Was I
an impatient? Did I disturb him?
It seemed like there was a woman with him in his car earlier. He had brought a woman to visit his

grandmother.
In my previous life, I hadn’t heard from Yvette that Gideon had a girlfriend. Besides, based on what
Mrs. Foster Senior said earlier, Gideon seemed to be single.
I needed to gather more information before deciding my next steps. I then unblocked Samuel’s WhatsApp and sent him a voice message, “Address
He quickly sent me a location.
I followed the address and arrived, only to discover that it wasn’t Samuel’s home but a high–end club. I stood at the entrance with my cane in hand. When the security guard saw me, he rushed. forward.
“You must be Ms. Sutton. You’re visually impaired correct? Mr. Jackman instructed us to escort you inside.”
I frowned. “That’s unnecessary. I’ll just wait for him here.”
“That won’t do. Mr. Jackman specifically said we must ensure your safety and bring you in.”
He gestured to two men behind him. Soon, two security guards came over to grab me.
Caught off guard, I was dragged into the club, with one guard holding each arm. My cane fell to the ground, and the guard who spoke to me earlier picked it up.
As they dragged me to the door of a private room, Samuel happened to come out with a cigarette in hand
The moment he saw me, he froze for a second. Then, he suddenly grabbed a fire extinguisher from the ground and smashed it over one of the guard’s beads.
“I told you to bring her in. Who the hell said you could touch her?”
Blood immediately covered the guard’s face. I was startled and stumbled back a couple of steps, bumping into someone behind me..
Samuel, who was clearly drunk and out of control started punching and kicking the two guards who had dragged me in. A few people rushed out of the private room and forcibly pulled him away.
Samuel turned to me, his expression darkening. “Who the hell are you leaning on? Get over here!”
I trembled slightly as I was scared by Samuel’s outburst.
The man behind me suddenly lowered his head and whispered in my ear, “Juliet, you shouldn’t be able to see. Why are you so frightened?”
