Chapter 2
I wanted to say more, but Jack was busy with work again. Our three–month–long cold war seemed to dissolve because of the paternity test.
That night, he updated his social media with multiple posts and removed all traces of his interactions with his secretary. His message read:
“My dear wife, thank you for giving me the chance to be a father. I will love you and our
son for a lifetime.”
The post included a picture of a large diamond ring, several gifts, and gold bars, along with
a traditional child’s long–life lock.
I was touched. It seemed like all our past issues were behind us, and we were finally
reconciling. In our eighth year of marriage, we were about to have our first child.
But just a few hours later, I was overwhelmed by a barrage of hostile messages.
I was confused at first, answering phone calls with a puzzled expression, only to be met
with angry curses.
“You bitch! How dare you seduce someone else’s husband!”
“You must be a slut to have gotten him. How many men have you been with? Do you
deserve everything that’s coming to you?”
“Don’t you have any shame? You’re just a mistress. Your child won’t survive!”
The vicious comments kept coming. I couldn’t understand why this was happening. I tried
to explain that Jack and I had been married for eight years and that I wasn’t a mistress, but
no one believed me.
“How could you be his wife?”
“He’s been married for eight years, but he never mentioned you. What right do you have to call yourself Mrs. Jack? You don’t even have a child after all this time!”
“You’re just a gold–digger trying to play the wife by getting pregnant. Do you think we’re all

fools?”
The onslaught of abuse left me in shock. I turned off my phone to calm down, but I started feeling sharp pains in my belly. I grabbed my spare phone and checked Jack’s Instagram, only to see that I was the only one who could view his posts with the secretary. It seemed like Jack was deliberately trying to provoke me.
That day, he had publicly declared his love and announced my pregnancy in a very high–profile manner. This was shocking, especially since he rarely posted on social media. I
alized this might be the reason for the backlash I was receiving. I felt humiliated and
confused.
I called Jack to ask what was happening, but he was in a meeting and his phone seemed to be on silent. I couldn’t reach him until late at night. I decided to wait until the next day to
confront him.
When I opened my phone the next morning, it was flooded with missed calls and a slew of angry text messages. I skimmed through a few and felt my anger boil over.
