Chapter 9
“It was you!” Melody screamed. “You’re the one who said Sophie was just your lapdog, that you were tired of her ages ago and wanted to break up, You told me that I brought excitement back to your life, that I made you believe in love again. You came after me first–1 oven turned you down! You said Sophie wasn’t even worth a finger of mine, and you’d leave her to marry me. That’s the only reason I agreed!”
Jacob, clearly irritated, threw a bundle of cash–ten thousand yuan–at her feet.
“Melody, stop making a scene. It’s embarrassing. Here’s ten grand; consider it payment for the abortion. I don’t ever want to see you again. I’ll be marrying Sophie soon.”
Furious, Melody lunged at him, clawing at his face.
“Bastard! Ten thousand? Do you think I’m a beggar? You’ll never get rid of me!”
Jacob, losing patience, shoved her hard. Melody stumbled back, unprepared, and fell heavily to the ground, clutching her belly with a scream as bright red blood began to spread beneath her.
Partic erupted around us. I shouted,
“Someone call an ambulance!”
Finally, someone snapped out of it and made the call. Jacob looked at the scene before him, momentarily stunned. Then his expression turned cold, disdainful as he looked down at
Melody.
“You brought this on yourself. That baby never should have been, so it’s better this way,” he said without an ounce of remorse.
Melody lay on the ground, her eyes empty, blood seeping from her lower body as she whispered, “My baby… my baby…”
I turned away and immediately called the police.
In the end, Melody’s child couldn’t be saved, and she suffered such severe hemorrhaging

that it was unlikely she’d be able to have children in the future. Jacob was detained for intentional assault. I thought this incident would finally make Melody see sense. But to my surprise, she turned around and issued a statement of forgiveness–Jacob’s father had intervened, forcing him to marry her.
Some people are just beyond help.
When I heard about it, I could only sigh and marvel at her devotion.
Then, I received a message from Jacob.
“Sophie, I’m sorry. I’ve lost you for good. My father forced me to marry Melody, or he’d cut me off. I had no choice, but don’t worry–my heart belongs to you alone. I’ll never touch
her.”
I replied,
“What a coincidence–I’m getting married too. But I love my husband deeply, so stop thinking about me. It’s unsettling to be thought of by a dog.”
Then I blocked him for good.
Putting my phone down, I wrapped my arms around Franklin’s waist.
“Franklin, when will you marry me?”
With joy in his eyes, he lifted me up, carrying me into the bedroom with eagerness.
Later, friends told me what happened to Jacob and Melody. Melody was fired from her job and was relentlessly harassed by the same viewers who once supported her, exposing her entire story. Whenever she tried to play the victim, people mocked her relentlessly. Over time, she stopped showing her face, retreating to life as a housewife.
Jacob drowned himself in alcohol daily, taking his frustrations out on Melody whenever he was drunk. I heard they now spent their days fighting, their lives loud and chaotic.
As for me, with those toxic people behind me, my future was only getting brighter.
