Chapter 4
He leaned in slowly, closing the space between us. For the first time, I saw him clearly
All these years of love–nothing but a cruel joke I’d played on myself. Nausea surged in my stomach, and I couldn’t hold back; I vomited all over Jacob. He jumped back, his face twisted with disgust.
“Sophie, are you serious? That’s disgusting!”
I looked at him with a blank expression, forcing down the bitterness rising in my throat.
“Jacob, who’s the disgusting one here? I guess I’ve been blind, unable to tell the difference between a man and a dog all these years. Stay away from me–I might just throw up again
I grabbed my things and moved past him swiftly. He shouted after me, his face livid.
“Sophie, I’m warning you. You walk out that door today, don’t ever think about coming
back.”
Every time we argued, I’d end up backing down. Over time, he’d come to think he had
control over me. But this time, there was no going back.
Jacob, I’m not as pathetic as you think I am.
Without a hint of hesitation, I stepped into the elevator. From a distance, I saw Franklin leaning against his car, his eyes lighting up when he spotted me. He took a large step forward, but before I could reach him, I was yanked back by a firm grip.
It was Jacob. He’d changed his clothes, but a faint sour smell lingered on him. He leaned close, breathing heavily against my ear, his voice tinged with desire.
“Damn, Sophie, I’ll let it slide this time. Just help me out–I’m dying here.*
Before he could finish, I drove my knee up hard. His face twisted in pain, and he crumpled, clutching his groin, writhing on the ground.
Franklin came over, wrapping an arm around my waist.

“All set, babe? Let’s hit the store, get some groceries, and cleanse your had vim?
Jacob’s already pale face turned an even darker shade. He pointed at Franklin, levid
“I thought we were brothers, and you go behind my back? I knew something was off–bom long have you two been at this?”
Franklin chuckled, leaning in to plant a soft kiss on my cheek
You smell amazing, bro,” he taunted.
Jacob struggled to his feet, his chest heaving, eyes blazing
“You two…!”
I wrapped my arms around Franklin’s neck, standing on my tiptoes to plant a kiss on him.
“You smell amazing too, bro.”
Jacob yelled in frustration.
“Stop it! Sophie, I won’t let you act this way with anyone else!*
I looked at him, smiling.
“Jacob, take a guess–where did I sleep last night?”
With that, I turned away, pulling Franklin along without a backward glance, leaving Jacob with a face twisted in fury.
Back in the car, I finally broke down, covering my face as tears spilled over. Franklin watched me, a complicated expression in his eyes.
“You really loved him, didn’t you?”
I nodded, then shook my head.
Everyone knew Sophie loved Jacob. But the Jacob I loved wasn’t the man he’d become. I loved the Jacob who’d shielded me from bullies, who’d stood by me when I was cast aside. I loved the Jacob who held me close after my parents died in that accident, promising he’d

always be there.
Over the years, jacob had become part of my life, ingrained in every corner of my world. And now, he’d ripped that love apart in the most unbearable way, yanking himself out of my life like tearing a piece of my soul.
Franklin sighed, pulling me into a gentle embrace. His warmth and the soft jasmine scent that lingered on him filled me with a strange sense of peace. He softly patted my back, soothing me like a child.
“Let it all out. When you’re done crying, we’ll start your new life.”
