Chapter 5
Chapter 5
Ruben stared at me in disbelief.
“Divorce?”
I nodded, motioning toward the papers and photos on the table.
His slender, elegant fingers, usually firm and gentle when embracing me, now trembled
slightly.
I studied his expression–shock, shame, embarrassment, unwillingness, heartbreak…
“Finished looking?” I asked calmly after a moment.
Despair clouded Ruben’s eyes.
“Yes. Sabrina, when… when did you find out? Where did these photos come from?”
I looked at him impassively.
As meticulous as he was, he must have already figured out where I got such detailed
evidence.
Ruben let out a bitter laugh and shook his head.
“It’s her, isn’t it…”
I remained expressionless.
“Sign the papers. Let’s part ways without making it uglier than it already is.”
But his eyes suddenly turned red, and his voice rose.
you be “I won’t sign! Sabrina, how could you abort our baby without telling me? How could so selfish? We’ve been in love for so many years, and yet you couldn’t even make room in your heart for a child?”
A cold smile tugged at my lips.

Yes, my body wasn’t in great condition, and conceiving had always bees atrout for he went through so much to try to get pregnant–endless treatments, Wester medrine traditional Chinese remedies. Nothing worked
I remembered Ruben watching me drink medicine until i vomited. He had taken the Brone
from me, his voice choked with emotion.
*Sabrina, we can live without kids, I can’t stand seeing you suffer like this.”
ter that, I stopped going to hospitals and decided to leave it to Late
Then, against all odds, the child came.
But shortly after, my world fell apart.
“Yes, it wasn’t easy for us to have this child. But I can’t let them grow up with a father who’s a liar. You know how much I hate betrayal
I looked at Ruben, who sat before me, tugging at his hair in frustration, and spoke softly my tone filled with sorrow.
The light in his eyes dimmed, and he stared at me.
“You’ve been acting with me for a long time, haven’t you?”
I pushed aside my sadness and countered, “And haven’t you? With a mistress in your arms outside and endless lies for me at home?”
I sighed.
“Sign the papers.”
Tears welled in Ruben’s eyes, but he stubbornly shook his head.
“I won’t.”
I stood, picked up the suitcase I had packed long ago, and left.
Ruben didn’t move. He sat frozen on the couch, staring at the evidence scattered before
him, just as I had when I first saw those photos of him and Sofia.
Chapter 5
I closed the door behind me and hailed a cab to a hotel.
After Ruben’s company took off, he had asked me to quit my job and pursue whatever
made me happy.
But after discovering his affair, I made up my mind to find work again–not just to distract myself from the pain but also to prepare for life after divorce.
With Ruben busy during the day, he had no idea what I was doing.
A new company had just hired me and scheduled me to start tomorrow.
Now that I had confronted Ruben, I felt a weight lift from my shoulders.
I could finally shed this mask of false happiness and escape the pretense.
Ruben’s calls and messages kept coming, but I took a deep breath and blocked his number.
At the hotel, I took a long, hot shower and collapsed into bed, falling into a deep sleep.
In my dreams, I saw the moment Ruben proposed to me.
He was dressed in a black suit, looking even more handsome after some years of hardship, his broad shoulders seeming capable of shielding me from anything.
He had decorated the restaurant meticulously, then knelt before me with a ring in hand.
He said he loved me.
He said he wanted me to be his wife.
In my dream, I saw my younger self extend a trembling hand, letting him slip the ring on my finger. I blushed, nodded firmly, and whispered three words:
“I do.”
Back then, we believed we’d be together forever–open, honest, and passionate.
The shrill sound of my phone jolted me out of the dream.

“Sabrina, you bitch! What did you say to Ruben? He’s going crazy and trying to ruin me!”
